Swivel Chairs in living room will I regret

I just purchased two swivel chairs for my living room. They are slipcovered traditional "club chairs" which will be used for conversation and then hoping to turn towards the TV when needed. Will I regret this, due to reading lights and side tables. Help, now I really nervous.

I have two swivel chairs in my living room too. I like that I can move and change my direction when needed, however you can't place a table too close or you will bump it while turning. The other slightly annoying thing is I'm constantly swiveling the chairs back into an asthetically pleasing position when no one is sitting in them.

Without any further information I would say that typically a living room should be more formal/nicer than having swivel Captain's or club chairs or slip covered furniture for that matter. I would only use swivel chairs if there was a reason to "change perspective" .... for a view or to open up to another area in the overall space.

I just bought rolling chairs for my dining room. I didnt want to clean the skid marks from the chairs (or listen to them being made) and I also wanted them to be comfortable since when we have guests we always end up talking at the table for hours. the other thing is that i have kids, so i wanted easy to clean leather. There are a lot of nice looking ones on amazon, if your willing to just buy one, then return if you dont like it...I wasnt. I shopped locally at the office supply stores (staples, office depot, etc.) and ended up buying ones from ikea. One thing I found out about these chairs after I got them home is that the wheels are locked until you sit in the chair. I think the weight unlocks them, so having the chair roll out from under you is not an issue. They are a lot easier on the bum, and easy to clean too. I love mine!

yes, I saw that. benjes, I didn't mean to suggest that your comment was for just me. I did suggest she move the photos, I just didn't say 'they don't belong'. I'm on the fence with it. If one doesn't have any worthy art, and the family photos are done in a way that look good, coordinate w/one another and properly sized, then I suppose you could do it. But for over the sofa, I still prefer one or two large pieces of actual art. or a mirror. and I'm loving this danish chair w/the teal cushions

We have one and LOVE IT!! The only mistake I made was not having both swivel. We bought two upholstered recliners one we put a rocker on the other a swivel. The swivel makes the chair able to sit and be facing a conversation area or turned when TV/fireplace gazing is the mood. I don't think it SHOWS at all. You can have a swivel attached to any chair.... Oh and our "sofa" has two recliners and again WE LOVE IT!! Especially for movie nights..... Remember you LIVE in your space and it should work for you --not just look good.

If you need to turn toward the tv you need a swivel chair. I think they are great. Very few of us have formal living rooms now.

What is a "typical " living room? A room one dusts and passes by? Many folks have only one room in which to be comfy and watch television. Post a photo of the room please.

There is nothing wrong with slip covered swivel chairs, but maybe there is a better way to arrange your room?

Several years ago purchased two upholstered matching side chairs and had a swivel and rocker put on one of them for the sole purpose of TV orientation when needed. Tables etc. have not been a problem. If anything I wish we had had both retrofitted.

Just make sure your side table is easy to move if you need to move it when swiveling.

Thanks folks. I just was looking for a photo, but nothing was really found. I purchased the swivel chairs, a matching ottoman and a love seat to match my current sofa.... so many things are changing. Once I get it all I will post for suggestions on placement. Thanks

Post the CURRENT room condition.You decide placement BEFORE purchases. After purchase is a fast trip to "regrets land"

Swivel chairs do not work with an ottoman but I have had them in my LR before and liked them a lot.

If you don’t end up liking them, you can always rehome them into another room. I don’t stress about buying small pieces, I find even if you’re not crazy about them you can always make them work. It’s your house, you want to be as comfortable as possible.
