That could be. lol There is a combo of perfumey (too much air freshener?) odour, too. It's not good. I could try the vinegar. Thank you.

Sand and refinish? I'll tell you, though, when I refinished our wood floors on a 95 year old house, I could not believe the stench that sanding brought up. I felt like we were removing the filth of ages. If your furniture is already noticeably smelly, sanding it might really bring forth the odor, but hopefully remove it forever. Just do it outdoors.

The weather looks sunny tomorrow, I might put them out on the deck in the sun. I was thinking about refinishing them, but I'm not sure if they are worth all that labour. haha. Thank you both.

Wash with vinegar, and sit outside for some days . Would be nice if in a nice hot sunny spot, but out where the air can get to them is good. ( maybe under a roof on a porch or decks they don’t get wet)

Just be sure to cover well with a plastic dropcloth if it is going to rain or snow -- getting them wet will just drive the odor deeper into the wood.

It won't matter if it is cold, you just don't want them to get wet. Put out on sunny days, windy is good, and bring in at night (you don;t want dew to condense on them) and leave in if any chance of rain or snow. It shouldn't take long. By the way, I detest Free Breeze!

Oh, I don't like (to put it mildly!) any 'fresheners or sprays' either so the vinegar idea is good with me. We're supposed to get some snow for a few days this week, but tomorrow is going to be sunny. I think what I will do is put them outside tomorrow and then put them in the shed, maybe until Spring, when it gets warmer.

Set the outside to air out. Prevent them from getting wet & damp.

To add a little bit to the put them outside depending on how they are constructed you might use a slightly dampened toothbrush around the area that the legs attach to the body. Also any of the places where the material has a joint. Sometimes crud can build up in those areas. Before putting them outside or if you find a build up each time you put them back outside. I have also used baking soda on the toothbrush but not on a stool.

I had a very nursing home smell cabinet. I washed it with a strong solution of water and peroxide. And the smell went away. :)

Nope, the finish wasn't hurt.

I have them outside in the (cold) sun right now. The sun is a lot warmer on the deck, though. I like the toothbrush tip and will try that. Last night I was reading that organic charcoal is a good odour eliminator, in case anyone else with smelly furniture (lol) is interested. I did search the Antiques Forum and found some good into there. Thanks everyone.

If you could put them in a garbage bag with newspapers I think it would take care of it.
