Help with sizing: artwork and ottoman

Hi all,

We are going to purchase artwork and need help with sizing. The room is 12.5 x 17 feet, and ceiling height is 9 feet. The sofa is 91" long and 33" high. We are deciding between 2 sizes: 42 x 60.5 or 48.5 x 71.5. I've green taped my wall and attached photos. Which is best?

We are also ordering a custom ottoman. Sofa is 91" and the loveseat is 63"...in an L formation. I was thinking 60" x 35" for the ottoman. Is that about right?

Hi!

I think the smaller art size is fine, but hung just a bit higher. Sometimes you can't get the exact dimension of the piece, but something in between the two could work as long as it's the RIGHT art piece. Size is not always everything. It has to reflect both appropriate scale and style to be right.

Will you be putting any side tables? The space looks tight but you have room for something small. You'll need somewhere not only to put a cup down, but visually complete the space.

As far as ottoman goes - there are so many options. Here are a few that I've worked with for larger spaces - they are fully custom, so just know you can create any look you choose!

We already have a vendor for the ottoman ... what do you think of the size I mentioned for the full size sofa and a loveseat?

I love the first and last stripe! I like the way the line draws your eye up and the last one is simple enough to not compete with the rug or the armoire. the one I picked was tough; there were so many that had your colors in them at Horchow! That one seemed to go more with your rug (which looked red, gold and brown on my monitor!)because it didn't have any green, but in the end I was thinking it had a subtlety that might work. having all of the colors represented is probably your best bet, though- it definitely brings your eye all the way around the room in a nice way. IMHO, you can't make your walls look too tall. Drawing the eye up is almost always a great thing. And I think some height will balance out the weight of the armoire as well. but only you can see how things look in person! clearly you have great taste!

I have no help to add about the art but I do love the colorful rug @celery showed I the last post. Something dramatic with that gorgeous green in it will tie the room together. Your dining table is stunning! And the green chairs are a happy surprise ( most dining rooms have all chairs the same).

I'd put blinds Bamboo blinds, more contemporary, on the windows and open the drapery panels on each side of the windows... only need the drapes pulled when you want a total darkness. I'd put large art in the indented area with a table and lamp Ambient lighting is a must for any room. A tall piece of furniture on that tiled floor that meets the carpet. I'd pull the sectional closer to the tiled edge... away from the window move the ottoman to the far side... and the side chair. ... find a new play room for the kitchen set.
