The Masked Singer

Has anyone been watching this show on Wednesday nights? It's on the Fox network. We didn't watch it the first week, but I read a bunch of comments about it in the News app on my iPad, so we watched it on Comcast/Xfinity's On Demand. Last week and last night we watched as it aired.

It's actually pretty good! The official network writeup on it says this:

"Hosted by Nick Cannon, with panelists Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke, "The Masked Singer" is a top-secret singing competition in which celebrities face off against one another while shrouded from head to toe in an elaborate costume, concealing their identity. With each performance, the host, panelists, audience, viewers and even the other contestants are left guessing who the singer is behind the mask. The singers may attempt to throw off the crowd, but keen observers might pick up on tiny clues buried throughout the show. Each week, a singer is eliminated -- and then reveals his or her true identity."

Three celebs have been unmasked so far. I won't spoil the surprise for anyone who hasn't seen it but is going to (I know you can watch the episodes on Hulu as well as On Demand).

Oh -- the masked celebrities are not (at least so far), known as singers.

I thought it was great. I was so glad that Elaine is not only personable and funny, but she's SMART too! I was so hoping she wouldn't fall for Ronnie's smooze, and she didn't. I was surprised by how many less than perfect bodies there were. Usually everybody is pretty fit, but the teams last night were downright normal looking. That immunity challenge looked brutal, especially that wall climb!! Did you see all the scrapes and bruises on them afterward? And that touchy guy, just gross IMO. Especially in this day and age, keep your friggin hands to yourself. I hope he gets the message. I actually kind of enjoyed Sandra and Rob, especially their comments whilst hidden away during tribal. Looking forward to next week.

It was very disgusting. How dare they play that card then back off and say oh we were just kidding! They weren't kidding when they were telling kellee about what had happened to them! Right now I would like for Missy and the Olympic woman Elizabeth to get kicked out. And Dan needs to admit what he did, it's on film! And face the consequences. I hate what Janet and kellee have gone through. I loved that Jeff would not back down as Dan kept urging to drop it and Jeff said never going to happen!

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist NBC, I like the way everyone bursts into song to express their feelings. DH just rolls his eyes. Better Call Saul AMC, not as good as previous seasons IMO, but will watch it to the end. Dispatches From Elsewhere AMC, really quirky and difficult to figure out what is going on at first. Grows on you. The Witcher NETFLIX, DS wanted to watch this and we watch a lot of Fantasy and SF together. I only enjoyed it for the hunky Henry Cavill, especially the bath tub scenes. The Magicians SYFY, if you liked Harry Potter, this is a more adult version. One of the better series of this type. Also watch a lot of the CW shows even though they bore me to tears because DS likes them. And several main stream shows,The Good Doctor ABC,The Resident FOX, Prodigal Son FOX, Stumptown ABC, New Amesterdam NBC. Nothing to write home about. Dracula NETFLIX, a new 3 part series based on the book. A remake by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss which turned into a botched mess IMO. Really terrible, especially the 3rd part. Ruined the book for any one who hasn't read it. Looking forward to these shows returning, Supernatural CW and Ozark NETFLIX. Haven't watched but on my list; Hunters Amazon, I Am Not Okay With This NETFLIX, and The Sinner USA.

Mine arrived yesterday. Love the prints, the fit and quality looks good. Mine are either silk with cotton lining (filter insert pocket) or a silk spandex blend with cotton lining. Out of five patterns, there is one that looks 'Hawaiian' DH could wear without feeling silly. Although he has olson style and pleated already. And this week he saw an ad for Tommie Copper adjustable ear strap 'antibacterial property' masks. He's a Tommie Copper fan and wears one of the compression sleeves often on his arthritic knee - he's convinced it helps and for the price I have no reason to argue with him ;0). He asked me to order the Tommie Copper masks for him, reasoning we may be wearing them at least occasionally the next several months, and I've done that. I've rec'd a notice of shipped and a USPS tracking number just today so I can't speak to their quality. Plain black, no choices there.

I know, the premise seems really stupid. And when I watched the first episode from On Demand, my husband started out snickering and scoffing. By the end of the show he wasn't saying anything. Then, when we watched it as it aired in week #2, he didn't say a whole lot. Last night as the show started, Hubs said, "This has actually gotten pretty good."

Give it another chance and watch next week. There will be a different group of celebs/singers on. Week #1 had six, and they were divided into three groups of two. Singers 1 and 2 performed, then the audience (and judges?) voted on which of the two should remain. After the third group had performed and one was named the "loser" of the two, the three celebs who ranked at the bottom were on stage, and the bottom one was announced and the celeb had to remove their mask. Week #2 followed the same format, but with a different group of six celebs/singers. Last night the remaining five from week #1 performed again, and one was unmasked. Next week, the five remaining from week #2 will perform again. There were several really good singers!

I watched for about 10 minutes. Not impressed with it.

My DH and I are enjoying it. The panel over-reacts a bit, but I like the suspense.

I am really, really, really, miffed at FOX right now. I don't think I will start watching another of their shows. I had found ONE show I liked out of all the networks and cable. It has been YEARS since I watched a series every week. It was "Lucifer" on FOX. I kept up with it for three years, even though they bounced it all over the place. It would have two or three shows, then off for three or four weeks. They would even change the night. This past summer they dumped it and kept some really dorky shows.

Netflix took it up, but we don't take Netflix and I don't think I am going to pay that much for one show. So, FOX is really on my s*** list.
