short and long window in same room? what to do?
Comments (5)Are you saying just a valance on the short window, and then a valance and drapery on the tall one? I think if the room were being used as two separate areas, such as the shorter window were in a dining area and the long one was in a living room area within the same space, that might work. But if the whole space is being used as a DR, I would suggest that uniformity of the window treatments would be visually more pleasing, and would make the difference in the two windows less noticeable....See MoreWindow treatment dilemma
Comments (19)I am following this with great interest as I have a very similar situation in my living room. I have had consults with several designers and they have all given me the same advice, which is to hang the curtain rod and curtains outside the windows, as shown in the picture near the beginning of this thread by saypoint. My worry about this is that it may look like a “stage” with curtains on each side. The curtains hung this way would also interfere with my furniture. I would like to hang panels inside the window area. However I am having difficulty finding hardware that would fit because there is less than 1” between the top of the window and the ceiling above (inside the “window” area). I think I need hardware that is mounted to the ceiling. But not sure that is possible or where to find it. Sorry I have no suggestions, but thanks for posting this question. I love the look of the blinds in the above picture but this seems more appropriate for a breakfast area than a living room....See Morewindow treatment dilemma-newbie here!

Comments (24)Here are a few ideas: 1. Get some tall wing back chairs and place them in front of each window. My wing back chairs are 44" high. My guess is that your house is already 2 feet above ground level, so this would block people from seeing in the house at night (they may be able to see your head as you walk by). The chairs could flank the fireplace and could be placed about a foot in from the window (don't have to put them too close to wall) and they would still block the view into the room. 2. Get honeycomb shades that lift from the bottom up- so you have nice small stacks at the bottom of the window during the day and then you raise them up as needed at night. 3. Have a sheer privacy film cover the entire window- so the window has a frosted look and they let the light in but people can't clearly see through them at night. Celery's window treatment on the lower windows look perfect on those, so that would be my choice for the remaining windows....See MoreCLC
