Half-walls for stairs verses railing and spindles? Any ?
Comments (5)I'm not a big fan of the half wall look, however I can see it being nice if you don't have much wall space overall. Also, if you are already over budget that might be a place where you go with the standard walls and if you don't like it save up some money and change it a few years down the road. Odds are what's popular now (black metal spindles?) won't be in a few years anyway....See Morehalf bath under the stairs
Comments (4)I have the same exact set-up except my staircase is all the way to the left, over the sink. I painted the entire room one color, including the ceiling. I didn't want to draw attention to it....See MoreWall decor on an awkward half wall

Comments (4)The more common thing would be to remove the staircase walls on three sides; door, long wall, kitchen short wall, and put up a decorative staircase railing system with the door at the bottom of the stair case. This would also mean finishing the stairs as you are now bringing them into your upstairs living space. It would open the home nicely. When my in-laws built a home in this configuration they no longer had small child concerns. That may be a factor....See MoreMegan Dean
