Comments (14)That is hard news to hear and I know you're sad and feeling stuck. Stuck is never easy. But, here's another way to look at it... Think if you HAD to sell right now, how much pressure there would be to get things ready. It is so much work. I did my work a year ago for the big house and am still not over it. Now, I have to go clean out the small summer place and just cannot get moving. I don't want to touch one more box or touch up one more baseboard. Bleargh! Another thought is that even of you did list the house now, it might take a year to sell in this market. I had a house on the market for nine months when DD was 4. That was unusual back then...it was an unusual house. Those kinds of numbers are more common today, but it doesn't make it any easier. I would start to say my prayers that someone will knock on your door again. It is not out of the question...you have a special house. Put it out there to the universe. Miracles can happen. :) Hang in there....See MoreBig Retailers vs. Speciality Shops for Down Comforter
Comments (5)While in NZ I bought a down comforter that has lasted 12 years and still like new. I really didn't have a clue if it was the right selection. It was from Fairy Down. Back then the dollar was quite less, so the price was far below buying one here. My daughter has bought two from large stores at sale prices and they were awful, didn't last and had the feathers constantly poking through. There are sites which explain how to determine the best. Bottom line is down percentage, added feather count lowers the quality. And we don't know where the feathers came from. Fill rate is also important. I would trust any down from NZ or Australia. Their business is to stay high on the list with the best products. They also have a separate resource for clothing, outdoor/camping products. Link is for online resources for FairyDown. I checked one I was familiar with and shipping nationwide was $10. Not sure what currency values are. Here is a link that might be useful: Fairy Down online...See MoreHow do you shop at yard sales ?
Comments (27)NanaTink ... In my city, there are probably 75+ garage sales each and every weekend. I live about five miles west of the city, and just can't compete with the city sales which are so close together. So this has been my strategy the past five years. I host one garage sale a year, on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend. I've found there are very few sales that weekend, and it's easier to entice people to drive out of the city to visit mine. There are a couple of major intersections in town just before heading in my direction ... I start my signs there, just the word SALE and an arrow, then repeat them just enough so they don't drive very far without seeing one. My signs are very distinct, and easy to follow and be sure you're on the right "track." They're made from two colors of posterboard taped together, last time I used neon pink and neon yellow. I always get comments from people how they love following my signs. My prices are cheap, cheap, cheap. I'm an avid reader, and always have a ton of paperbacks. DH offers tools that he no longer needs. We try to have a good mix of guy stuff and gal stuff. DH and I both work the sale, we rarely let our customers just look around without speaking to them. We've actually built up a reputation for having a great sale, and get lots of repeat shoppers! If I have any big-ticket items, I'll put an ad in the paper, but only for the morning of the sale, and using the fewest number of words possible. Good luck!...See MoreDid Anyone Shop The After Christmas Sales?
Comments (32)I shopped online. Yesterday I put a really cool table runner (50% off!) in my virtual cart at Pier One and then got distracted. Today I got back online, put a few more things in my cart and went to checkout. Guess what? The table runner was sold out! Somebody apparently snitched it right out of my cart overnight. Dadgum it!...See MoreFunkyart
