storing cuttings during winter
Comments (14)You can just lay them down on a towel, Since there is no water and light plus heat, the plant will do basically nothing.I label any cuttings from the fall so I know what it is in spring. I have my plants listed by number as I got them and have that written in a journal where I keep notes on what I have done in the garden. I can just write the number with a pen on the cutting about 5" from the bottom cut. This cuts down on the error of giving someone a "Texas Sunshine" which turns out to be a Seashell....See MoreCan appliances be stored in a garage?

Comments (15)I'll buy my major appliances online when: The online retailer will sponsor my local youth sports team, buy my daughter's Girl Scout cookies, donate time to a local charity, have their cars serviced in a local garage, use the corner dry cleaner's services, get a haircut, eat at a local restaurant, etc. If you live in a "sales tax" state and are able to avoid the tax by buying online, you are helping fund those same services in the other locale, while not contributing to the cost of services you enjoy in your own community. Regardless of your home state's means of funding, your local economy is enhanced by your purchases of big ticket items from local dealers and loses when you buy from out of state. In these hard economic times your local retailers really need your support. Store owners and employees are active in your community and contribute to the economy by buying the goods and services that may well be connected with the way you earn your own living. You can always get an online quote and use it as a negotiating tool with the local retailer. Most will try to either match the price, or provide extra services the online retailer cannot. To have a local company (with a reputation to uphold) looking out for your post-sale interests is an added bonus. Here's a thought for any who watched last weekend's Solheim Cup golf tournament. If an attitude of support and loyalty like that shown by the American team members were to be shown toward the local retails in our communities, the economy would be well served....See MoreFreaking about cabinets stored in garage during Irene
Comments (20)Great to know that you got through it!! Okay, now that everything is safe, here are some pointers for the future. If you can, have pallets to place that kind of delivery on (there are places that rent them), or concrete blocks, or anything that'll keep them off the floor. a half inch of water could irretrievably damage the cabinets, but by the time there are six inches you've got plenty more to worry about than the cabinets. Also, it's easier to flood a garage, with a ground level entry and no sill than a house. You can keep out the water with sandbags. If the water is rising to the level of your doors as well, sandbags help there too. Marcolo, I don't know how this is done, but I've heard of a way of anchoring trees in liquified earth. Don't know if it works either, but it's a thought......See MoreN N
