two questions regarding willow propogation in January winter

Hi All

It is January in Zone 5b and I have hard pruned a salix nana willow and have a lot of branches left ranging in diameter from 2 inches to 1/2 inch.

I have never propagated hardwood cuttings but was thinking of simply scoring the bottom 1-3 inches (similar to a softwood cutting technique to remove the bark) and adding hormone powder and putting in the ground.

Also, I did the hard prune today but don't have the means of putting the branches in water. Since they are willow will the branches last a few days outside laying down before I propagate or is one day mean they are gone.

Appreciate your thoughts.
