Correct lighting in renovated kitchen/dinette

Our longish kitchen is divided in half by the peninsula counter. The appliances, sink and cupboards are on one side and the kitchen table and bay window on the other. There is an electrical box in the ceiling which is centred to the bay window, but when the table is moved to allow for seating at the peninsula, the hanging fixture can only be centred to the table by using a swag. I do not like this look and wonder if a possible solution is using pot lights instead of the hanging fixture. Would it look silly or odd to have a large ceiling expanse with a single flush mount ceiling fixture in the kitchen work area and several pot lights on the other side? The ceiling is uninterrupted throughout and both sides or the room are roughly the same size.
