Recs for 36" gas range or induction cooktop w/ 1 oven? on budget
Comments (9)Thank you both so much for your suggestions. I am feeling like I am really leaning toward induction, but I am disappointed as I just read rave reviews on Elux ovens, but awful reviews on their cooktops, and vice versa for Bosch. If I could install a Elux oven under the Bosch cooktop I think Id be very happy, but Im not sure if that can be done. I don't want anyone voiding my warranties because we mixed appliance brands. I could possibly put my oven in my island? Glad to see I have an option to get a very professional gas range if I go that route. I'm not sure yet what the discrepancy is regarding the size of the hood. Would a 20" pass inspection and adequately remove grease & odors or not? If it would, don't know why I'd need bigger? But if it wouldn't, think I better look for more affordable range, if I go that route. What type of hood would I need for an induction cooktop? I believe the requirements are lower? Induction sounds like it would fit me best, especially since I've never used gas I think maybe I just don't know what I'm missing. But I have to figure out how to get a decent oven in an acceptable space....See Morecracked new slide in induction glass top
Comments (9)I lived for years - YEARS - with a cracked top that gradually became a more cracked top, that became a top with chunks of ceramic missing. Three or four hundred boil-overs and I long since stopped worrying about it affecting performance or being a fire hazard. I'm in the midst of a remodel and meant to put it on Craig's list for free so someone could replace the top and give it a new life, but I guess I forgot to mention that to my contractor who took it to the dump. That said, I'd never live with a new appliance like that. Suck it up - $400 hurts, but it's not a nice new range if you're patching it up with tape. I'm not happy with Amex right now but I bought all my appliances with them due to their protection programs. ps I've mentioned this before on this forum, but my terribly abused cooktop broke but never had more than superficial, barely visible scratches until something scratched it good a few months ago....See MoreBosch Induction Cooktop w/ AutoChef
Comments (0)Does anyone have any experience with the AutoChef feature on the Bosch induction cooktops? I am wondering if it's worth the extra $$$. A Google search on AutoChef took me instead to "Wallace and Grommet's Cracking Contraptions." Not exactly what Bosch had in mind--they might want to rethink the name! Here is a link that might be useful: Appliance Catastrophe...See MoreInduction cooktop - glass edge an issue?
Comments (15)Came across this thread while looking for solutions for the chipped edge on my induction cook top. In less than a year, we have two chips. One from when my sister was visiting and set a pan on the cook top prior to putting it away- at a slightly less than idea angle. Not forcefully, not slammed, not even set down with a thud. The result was a half-moon shaped chip on the edge. A few months later, I dropped a small glass spice jar from an overhead side cabinet... if kind of landed on my shoulder first, them made it's way down to the cook top, and it made a very small chip in the edge. It wasn't a direct hit. I would say that anything that doesn't offer *some* sort of protection from minor impact would not get my business as there is currently no way to repair these types of chips. What I would like is some sort of frame or trim that I could add on now, after the fact. The chips don't impact functionality but aside from the cosmetic factor, I don't like having sharp, broken glass exposed in a high traffic work area. I don't consider myself a Tasmanian Devil in the kitchen. but the cook top of any well-used kitchen is going to be a place of action, movement, comings and goings. Bottles, jars, pots, pans etc will all be moving in this area, and the unprotected edge is a needlessly expensive accident waiting to happen....See Moreclt3
