any 24-inch fridge owners happy with summit, blomberg, or LG?
Comments (37)Yeah their stuff was amazing - here's their coffee table that opens up to become a hi-fi and a TV projector: But anyway, there's an estalished "grey market" in selling items intended for sale in foreign contries in the US by companies other than the company's authorized US distributor. It's completely legal, and it's how many of us bought our cameras in the '70s through '90s, but you can expect the manufacturer's warranty won't be honored in the US, so you'd have to haul the thing back to Canada to get LG to pay for repairs the first year. After that, since it uses virtully the same parts as a fridge that was sold for many years in the US, finding someone who can repair it, even authorized LG service agents, should be easy. Companies never like grey-market imports taking business away from their chosen importers, so don't expect LG to give you the green light. Instead, call an appliance store near the border, ask them to look at the placard inside the door (or in the use & care or installation manual) and see if there's any reference to American service addresses, phone numbers, or at least UL certification. Some will have US yellow "EnergyGuide" stickers on them, often reversible to Canadian energy guides. you can probably find a dealer along the southern border willing to send one across state lines - especially smaller mom & pop independent shops that need every sale they can get and are less tied down with corporate-HQ policies to follow. If all else falls, plan a trip to Montreal or Toronto - plenty of interesting things to do there besides scoping out exotic appliances.... just bring a truck, van, SUV, or some wagons large enough to hold a boxed fridge, probably on its side....See MoreSmall kitchen reno : Narrow fridges
Comments (10)wedgered--I have a very small kitchen (about 7 x 9) so I was also on the hunt for narrow appliances. I very nearly went with one of the Liebherr refrigerators (which really do look great) but ended up with a different solution--going with all undercounter refrigeration to give me more counterspace. Since I was truly space constrained I didn't have room for 2 24" units, so ended up going with the U-Line 24" combo refrigerator/freezer drawer unit, plus a second 15" wide undercounter refrigerator. The setup is working great for me, and I love the extra counterspace. You would probably need a bit more space than I have, but you might want to take a look at your layout and see if undercounter options could work for you. Here is a picture of my "refrigerator" wall: For my other appliances I went with an 18" Miele dishwasher which I love--plenty of space thanks to the cutlery drawer up top, so no basket taking up space. For my range I went with a 70 cm (about 27 inch wide)Lacanche Cormatin--just a bit bigger than the various 24" options like the Aga Companion (and oh so pretty!). If you really only have room for a 24" range, you might also want to look at the Blue Star--folks seem to love those over on the Appliance forum. I think American Range also has a 24" option which looks nice. Here is a picture of my range (in case I can tempt you away from the Aga Companion!) Enjoy your hunt for skinny appliances!...See MoreGorgeous NEW Counter Depth 24' S/S Fridge Spotted!
Comments (44)blondell: I don't specifically recall, but as I face Fagor I have a wall on the left and Fagor is about 1.5-2 inches from that wall only so the door can open properly. I don't know the depth, but only the handle extends beyond my granite counter top (so that would be 25ish inches?). The right side abuts to the upper and lower cabs next to it. That side is gray, but it looks fine with my black (Absolute) and white (cabs) kitchen. I was going to box it in, but decided air flow might be compromised and it was going to make my tiny kitchen look/feel tinier. So I didn't and I'm glad. I'll be glad to check the book and report back. Re noise, the first night I did freak out when I heard this snapping/crackle/popping sound. I grabbed the manual and was relieved to know it was a normal sound for Fagor(something to do wit insulation expanding/contracting). Itr doesn't happen all the time, and it has never bothered me since. I live in a urban condo, an efficiency, and my bed is about 12 feet from the Fagor. Don't laugh; it's true! :o) I sleep right through the noise, and I have asked guests if it bothers them when it comes on, and they have't noticed it at all. I've sent you and email in case you want to discuss offline, I'll be glad to help. I also recommended the Fagor to a friend in Arlington VA whose kitchen is smaller than mine and she really loves hers, too. I've had mine for a year; my friend for about 2 months. I also got the 24" Bertazzoni gas stove if you're looking for ranges! Take care....See Morewould a 24" fridge look OK in a space designed for a 36" fridge?
Comments (32)When I bought my first fridge, I knew that I didn't use much fridge space, but I went ahead and got a 36" counter depth (with ice, not in door) for my small kitchen. However, those were not so prevalent 24 years ago so it was expensive (but not sub-zero expensive). Could I have gotten a smaller one? Probably. Would it have been counter depth? No. I still have that fridge. A marriage, then a move, then kid, then divorce later I most definitely don't want a smaller fridge when I get a new one. I'd like it to be bigger, but I want a sub zero integrated, so it may end up being slightly smaller. That makes me really nervous. I'm hoping that going from a side by side to an over/under layout will help. Fingers crossed!...See MoreJoe
