would a 24" fridge look OK in a space designed for a 36" fridge?

Built-in Fridge options for 24" deep opening
Comments (9)You cannot tell anything without the diagram. There are three issues: the depth needed for the box, the way the frame will fit the opening, and then the thickness of the door and whether that and the handle will sit proud of the face of the cabinet. For fully integrated the entire thickness of the door would sit flush with the cabinet. Only the handle protrudes. Then there is the issue of whether or not a cabinet panel will be used or the standard door. For "standard" installation -- my Miele fridge is done like this and SZ also can be done this way -- there is a frame that covers the cut out. The frame is not deep and partially encloses the door but the door surface is not aligned with the face of the cabinet. It sits proud of the cabinet by 1.5 inches. Depending on the style of the door and location of the vent that can look more or less obvious. The photo you show above is a standard installation of a SZ -- note that the grill and the doors sit proud of the cabinet panels. Your photo is NOT of a fully integrated refrigerator. Miele and SZ both will produce a very nice result similar to the photo above with a 24" deep cabinet. That's what I had -- not a quarter of an inch more. With a standard toe kick below the fridge there should be no issues with the bottom of the frames. If your cabinets end up being deeper than 24" then you may/may not have more options. That depends on how deep they are and which fridge interests you. But in any event, always check the diagrams on the spec sheets -- not just the listing of dimensions which can be very deceptive. Comments (7)I bought Perlick freezer drawers - widely advertised as being 30% more quiet than its competitors - I assure you, it is very noisy. Before I purchased I called Perlick and explained that I was a contractor/architectural designer and that the unit was for my home, an open-plan loft, and that I was very concerned about noise levels because of the layout. I asked if I could go to any showroom to hear the unit and they said there were no showrooms. They assured me that it was "very quiet". I asked for decibel ratings and they said they don't have decibel ratings. I've put my sound meter on it and it comes up in the mid-50s decibel range which is "air conditioner" which is not quiet at all. 24/7 it hums, has high pitched noises with frequency, and vibrates. I complained to Drimmers NJ from whom I bought the unit - who refused to take the unit back. They assured me that it was not because I was only reporting this to them on the 30th day since delivery, that they wouldn't take it back because Perlick refused to take it back and they (Drimmers) did not want to "get stuck with a $4,500 freezer." Drimmers told me I had to get Perlick to agree to take it back. I spoke to Perlick tech again and told them the unit was very loud, and they said that that was "(my) subjective opinion". I reminded them that it their of their advertising "30% more quiet than competitors" was a "subjective opinion" and that decibel ratings as high as air conditioners are not quiet and that they should offer decibel ratings to their customers. Drimmers has told me that they will refuse to sell any Perlick manufactured product in the future given their lack of customer support to stand behind their product....See More24" Counter-Depth fridge/freezer (78 7/8" x 23 1/2" x 23 7/8")
Comments (8)There's a regular sized Fischer and Paykel fridge that is counter depth and affordable: the Active Smart. I have it in my very small kitchen and love it. I saved space with an 18" Bosch dishwasher which I also love! I just use it a bit more frequently than a full sized one. I researched fridges for quite a while. I didn't want to pay Subzero prices and was concerned about negative reviews for some of the other narrow width fridges. Plus I was concerned that creating a narrow area for the fridge might be a problem if such fridges ever were difficult to find. You could find photos of my small kitchen with these appliances if you do a search here for a thread that has 1923 kitchen with Breakfast Nook in the title....See MoreBosch 24" fridge against wall?
Comments (2)During my current remodel, I am staying in a place where the refrigerator is against the wall so door only opens 90 degrees and I dislike it. You can’t really stand in front of it to access stuff and it feels awkward. i wouldn’t want a door that only opened 90 degrees to load and access from the side. I would reconfigure to avoid and I am cutting down a portion of the wall deliberately in my remodel so that the door can open completely....See Moreanoop
