What are your favorite holiday movies?

My favorites are the old Rudolph and Frosty (the claymation one), the Grinch, etc. Mostly stuff I watched as a kid. But I love most Christmas movies in general. What are your favorites?

A college age daughter.

wife is robbed, sleeping in her car until befriends A former banker then they team up and start a business. Anyone remember it?

I must say my all time favorite is It's a Wonderful Life. The story has so much meaning to me. Whenever I think at the end all the community coming to help George out with all the money to make up the difference in his Uncle's bookkeeping mistake. (Darned ol' Mr. Potter!) I can't help but always remember when I was a young teen and my Dad getting layed off from his job. He was a maintenance worker at a local hospital. He was given the boot just a few weeks before Christmas. With 4 kids and a mortgage was so much to bear before Christmas. The hard thing too is that he had already been diagnosed with Parkinsons disease (he was in his mid to late 30's). Well, he was loved by all the employees there. He was President of the Employee's Association and set up many wonderful outings to plays, comedy, etc.. So, when news got out one of his co-workers came over just about a week or two into December. He presented my Dad with a small gold papered box. Inside was $1800 CHC (cold hard cash)! He was moved to tears! All the employees pitched in money to help us out! WE were all excited and even fanned the money out on the ground and took a picture of it! So, whenever I see that movie, it brings me to tears of the goodness of people's souls coming to help a friend in need. The saying, "What goes around, comes around." always rings true with me! This is a good thread, very enjoyable. There are so many favorites, but two that are special to me are: 1. I'll Be Home for Christmas. My father would tell us every time that the song came on about how this was the song they played on the ship on his way to Germany during the Korean War. It became such a funny thing that when I was older, I would end up calling him when I would hear it and say "Dad, did I ever tell you about the time you were on a ship in the army and they played "I'll Be Home for Christmas?...well it's on the radio right now". What a great guy he was, miss him a lot. 2. "Oh Holy Night" a memory created only about 6 years ago--we were on a cruise for Christmas, and we were leaving St. Lucia on Christmas Eve, so standing at the aft of shift watching the island disappear, this was the song that was softly playing on the ship's PA system. Oh, the goosebumps I get. I still don't know if it was Celine Dion or Gloria Estefan singing it. So of course, I have both versions on my iTouch.

We have ONLY apps for Christmas Day because family visits at random times throuhgout the day and it's impossible to coordinate a sit-down dinner. So it's very casual. Mtn, please tell me about the ham and cheese thumbprint cookies? We always have a few types of cheese and crackers. DH is really into cheese, so I let him do the choosing there. Also, a big veggie/crudite type platter. A big favorite that couldn't be easier -- a log of goat cheese with a little bowl of fig preserves next to it, with a tiny spoon, and some fancy crackers (I like Raincoast Crisps salty date and almond crackers). Spread cheese on cracker, add a little dollop of fig jam, so yummy. You can also heat up the jam a bit in the microwave and drizzle it over the goat cheese instead. I have also made my favorite app in the world, which I got from my neighbor, which involves wontons, chicken, and ranch dip. Sounds weird but it is amazing. I'll try to find the recipe...

Aww, I was going to say Big Night! (I went to high school with the fellow who composed the non-Tony-Bennett original music: when they are eating, the clatter of cutlery is actually a composition!) Not about food and wine, but when my friend and I watched I'll See You In My Dreams with the lovely Blythe Danner and lovelier Sam Elliott, we got tipsy just watching the women drink wine. Frequently. We thought it would be a good movie to see at home and drink along with Blythe. Theres an Italian movie where they eat a meal out in the garden, long table, I can't remember e name but I just really want to linger out in the garden over lunch. My Cousin something-or-other?

Love Actually, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Home Alone. The first two I watch every year.....sometimes more than once. The last is maybe every couple of years.

The Bishop's Wife is my all time favorite. I've watched It's a Wonderful Life three times so far this season. I also watched It Happened One Christmas (the Marlo Thomas remake)

Of the movies you mentioned I've seen Charlie Brown, It's a Wonderful Life, Elf, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, Elf, Home Alone (all 3 of them), and the Grinch (both the original and the Jim Carrey version). All of them are very good. I've seen scenes from the Muppet Christmas Carol but I've never watched the whole thing (We do have the Mickey Mouse version on tape though). Love Actually sounds interesting as well. Might watch that if I have time.

A Christmas Carol (the George C. Scott version); Miracle on 34th Street. I really like The Shop Around the Corner (and its modern remake, You've Got Mail) but never really thought of it as a Christmas movie.

I watched Love, Actually for the first time last week. Have to say that there were a couple of the storylines I could have done without...

Josephine..the movie was Home for Christmas, tv movie with Linda Hamilton. I love The Bishops Wife, Miracle on 34th Street and The Christmas Wife (with Julie Harris and Jason Robards).

I haven't watched the Bass/Rankin movies for years, but when my kids were young, we watched them every year.

I have Elf recorded and have a CD of "We're No Angels" from 1955, with Bogey, Also Ray and Peter Ustinov. Hope it's as good as I remember.

Still love Holiday Inn, Christmas in Connecticut and White Christmas, too. Stanwyck and Bing...how can you beat them!

"Finding Christmas", I must have watched it 30 times! or at least it feels like it. Another good one is "Christmas Pen Pals", I just saw that one on Lifetime.

No movies planned for tomorrow. I may take my adult son the EAA (Experimental Aircraft Associan) museum on the day after Christmas. We have not been there for 20 years and its only an hour drive from my house.

I love Elf, Polar Express, Home Alone...others listed here, I even own some. I refuse to watch or buy A Christmas Story until it comes on for its marathon. It must be my favorite :)

The 1951 version of "A Christmas Carol"/"Scrooge" with Alistair Sim. TCM aired it on Christmas Eve, FXM had it on a marathon (terrible print) yesterday. The Patrick Stewart version is also good. I recorded both.

"The Bishop's Wife", "Miracle on 34th Street" and "A Christmas Carol"/"Scrooge" with Alistair Sim. I also like "A Christmas Story" and have to watch it at least once every Christmas season.

I agree with the die hard movies! I can't find them anywhere online this year so I will have to buy the digital copy or download them or buy DVDs. I also like the first home alone.

I like most Christmas movies that was mentioned here. Sorry josephene, I see that was already mentioned. I didn't watch the Bass/Rankin series this year either. I have the full DVD set so I may watch it soon. Not much in the mood for Christmas this year. Have no idea why.

Yes I understand it's a Christmas movie, but someone said "Shop" isn't, while I consider it to be a very Christmas movie. I just can't see accepting one and not the other.

I've never seen the Shop Around the Corner but it looks interesting. I read about it and the movie You've Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan is based on the same play that Shop around the Corner is based on. There are articles that support it as a Christmas movie but having not seen it, I can't say.

However, as a die hard fan of Die Hard.....
