Help! Both main kitchen sink and prep sink overflowing!
Comments (2)Your disposals could also be partially clogged. When my DW is backing up in the sink, I turn on the disposal for a moment and it starts to drain. Cleaning the disposal periodically by running a dozen or so ice cubes through it helps to keep it clean....See MoreAnyone have 24" deep island with main kitchen sink?
Comments (8)I'm adding a link to a GW kitchen from last year--done in an older home, with all the challenges and restrictions inherent. The homeowner created a magnificent kitchen, including a narrow island, which houses sink and DW. It's slightly wider than your requirements, with a fairly small sink, but take a look--you might be able to adjust your plan to make it work. And, the owner is still graciously replying to posts, in case you have questions. Comments (9)Refrigerator position... This one will have to be a personal preference choice... The refrigerator currently is in an ideal location for DR access...more milk, condiments, etc....as well as close by for putting away leftovers, those condiments, etc. It's also not a bad location for the island or Breakfast Nook seating. Yes, it's a longer walk from the FR for someone who wants a snack. If you switch w/the Ovens, it will mean a long walk from the DR...it will also be a longer walk from the cooktop & sink (for putting away those leftovers, etc.) A switch will also mean eliminating the "baking center" concept...unless you move the cooktop down to compensate. You might consider putting in a Beverage Cooler (undercounter refrigerator) in the upper right corner of the Breakfast Nook...it would solve both problems! If the uncercounter refrigerator doesn't appeal to you or won't work for whatever reason, then ask yourself... When do you use the refrigerator more...at meal & cleanup time or for snacks? Do you want a "baking center"? Your answers to these questions will show you where the refrigerator is best placed for you! Good luck!...See MoreMain (& only) sink in kitchen island_raised vs level counter?
Comments (14)Do the counter all one level. The raised counter doesn't do much, except interrupt your expanse of work space. If you want to hide stuff in the sink, your deep Super Single you said you are getting will do that, and anyway, it's a kitchen for goodness sakes, and it will have dishes in the sink. It's not expected to look like an operating room. I also prefer the sink not to be centered in the island. But others feel differently. Again, it's an issue of keeping the counter expanse mostly uninterrupted for the greatest utility. If the sink is centered, then both the left and right sides of of the counter are shortened. If you can, try to have the sink towards one end of the island. Just MHO, it's not a deal-breaker, just a suggestion. Where will the DW be? I suggest next to the sink, rather than not in the island. The reason is that you don't want to have to carry dripping dishes from the sink across the aisle to the DW, so the DW needs to be in the island too....See MoreC Thoman
