Will brug seedlings bloom in the first year?
Comments (7)Linda As a novice brug seedling grower in 2007, I just let my seedlings do their thing, and most of them bloomed. Many were singles but there were a few doubles/triples in the batch. I don't know what "pushing" them means, so I may have done so thru ignorance. Karma, please explain pushing, so I don't do it!! Thanks! Last year, I ordered alot of seedling crosses with double parents and very few of my seedlings bloomed. Only singles seedlings bloomed. Since I have limited space, those that did not bloom are carried over to this year, and they are crimping the little space I have. I am back to mostly single crosses this year, and should have better luck getting blooms! Seeds started late December to early January may bloom as early as June here, but most start up blooming in September. First frost is supposed to be first week in November here but we had one two weeks early last Fall, so some of my seedlings with first buds never bloomed. ;-( Good luck with yours! Comments (3)Just went yesterday. I wasn't too surprised to see the brug vendors. Anthony was there again, this time he was selling some small brugs that looked like they might have been from seed. The stems were very small ( smaller than a pencil) for $5. In the past he's had cuttings in 2 gal pot for $25 & $30. I saw the Patio plant boxes too. some of mine in the basement must have been peeking out the window and see the nice weather. They are starting too leaf out....See MoreFirst Brug bloom of the year!
Comments (8)Josh, Congrats on your first brug bloom of the year! Your plants look amazing and you said you had not had rain since April? I can't begin to imagine that and don't want to! Hope you get rain soon. I think you are the one that posts the pretty pics in the winter when it is foggy/misty that I enjoy. Love the bottle brush too! Thanks for sharing. Comments (1)a little slower than usual. My Peaches and Cream has not bloomed yet, nor has my double white (which has an amazing fragrance). The Frosty(s) have put on a good show several times, and some new un-named yellow ones have bloomed well. Last night I had 25 flowers open for me and permeate the neighbourhood. Even one of the ones that I was sure was dead, came up from the root and I notice that there are buds on her. It has been a terrible year for mite though, and I fear the treatment has had a negative effect on the plants. I'm already thinking about a new spot to plant them next year, and getting rid of some of the less fragrant/more pest attractive brugs. My single whites are strong magnets for mites. On second thought, perhaps I should keep a couple just to serve as sacrificial magnets so the mites stay away from the others. Thoughts???...See Morejhl1654
