Captain Kirk Sport--boy am I confused!
Comments (8)BUT Mark's Starship is a tc sport while mine is an actual plant sport. ========>>> isnt there an FAQ dumbing down TC [ i put it that way cuz some dummy wrote it ..] .... i will sum it up they take a piece of meristem... which is like an artichoke... strip off all the leaves of the artichoke ... down to the meristem .... so they have the crown to start with .... and sterilize it to within an inch of its life .... so its still the same plant ... they then place that in some jello/agar which has hormones to release dormant buds .... a few weeks later they take it to a chamber and start slicing off little plantlets .... which are still the same plant ... now they have crown + leaves ... then they get a different jar with rooting hormone in the jello .... and grow some roots on all the pieces cut of ... and it is still the same plant ... and now a complete plant with roots, crown and leaves ... in a few more weeks.. when they all might be an inch big.. they move them to liner trays by the hundreds ... and they are still the same plant ... and there you have TC in a nutshell ... now.. because hosta are inherently unstable.. lets say for every hundred of the same plant ... out will pop the weirdo .. centered.. edged.. just different from momma ... and that is how a TC produced sport ... and .. IN THEORY .. would be no different than your sport .. if they look the same ... though in all reality .. only maturity.. and a DNA test is going to tell you if they are exactly the same ... you can divide or stomp your plant.. to start releasing the dormant buds.. to increase your odds of getting the little weirdos .... and eventually.. you will have 250,000 copies of momma .... and a good percentage of sports.. just like the TC guys ... i doubt your are thinking of registering it and putting it on the market.. but in all reality.. these TC guys have swamped the market with hundreds of look alikes.. because each lab names the same sport and takes it to market [God forbid they throw away something that they have this much invested in, even if it is a look alike] .. and frankly.. no one is going to bother to do the DNA to find out ... ergo presto.. a bunch of TC sports of something like striptease.. that all look familiar ... so in specific answer to your question... yes it is the same sport.. until someone else proves me wrong ... regardless ... it is a thrill to 'capture' your own.... you may resume having fun in your garden .. lesson over ken...See MorePlease Help! Need to Pick Trim Paint Color by 11am EST Today!!
Comments (13)annz - Thanks for your reply! Ideally I'd like more time to choose. I took Forever to pick the wall colors, and drove DH up a wall (I'm surprised we're still married - ha ha!). This is my way of sort of making it up to him, lol. Although Benjamin Moore has some no voc paints that we can get locally, we choose American Pride b/c it's supposed to be non toxic (we have a baby and are renovating the entire house - which we've yet to move into, so I'm trying to be as green and non toxic as possible). sueb20 - Thank you for your suggestions! Yes, I agree that we should paint the doors and trim the same color. (Thanks for setting me straight!) And, thank goodness that the ceiling doesn't need to match the trim exactly. Atrium White and Decorators White are very pretty, but the lighting in our home was not doing them justice. And so, the winner is - Simply White! It looks white, without any gray or blue tint to it. And I like how it has a touch of warmth - as most of our colors are warm, and we have a lot of northern light. It's not my favorite white for our one Beacon Gray bathroom, but it will still look nice. As for the bedroom that will have Mascarpone on the bottom - I'm still a little concerned there b/c Simply White is very close in color and doesn't "pop" like a cooler white would, but hopefully the semi gloss sheen will help with the contrast a bit. We'll see... Overall though, I think Simply White will work really great in our home, and I'm excited to see everything painted! Thank you all again for your replies! You're the best!! :)...See Moremore questions on range hoods -- hopelessly confused about MUA
Comments (2)First, you should consult your local code inspectors, preferably talking to a real person who can tell you what is required in your jurisdiction. If you decide you must have MUA, it is probably best to hire an HVAC company, who has experience in these kinds of installations. There have been a lot of home-brew DIY type systems discussed, especially over on the Appliance Forum, but whatever you do must be acceptable to the code guys. Don't expect the appliance manufacturer or sales person to give you adequate advice - they will never risk killing a sale by admitting that a MUA system is required which may be more expensive than the range and vent hood combined. The capacity of your vent hood is generally determined by the type of cooking you do, and what you can afford. In my jurisdiction, the code guy looked at what my range's manufacturer recommended for venting. If all you do is simmer, poach, roast, or reheat take-out, the 100-200 cfm recommended by that GreenBuildingAdvisor may be enough. But if you want to stir-fry, sear, or grill indoors, you will need every single cfm you can afford to clear out the smoke and grease from your living space. I really don't think you can grill indoors unless you have a hood that extracts much more than 400 cfm - probably requires 1000 cfm or greater. As for the size of the vent hood relative to your range, the 6" wider recommendation is for optimum performance. But in the real world, many of us have to compromise due to space or budget issues. My particular work-around is to do my high heat searing or stir-frying on a burner that is centred under my hood - at least my cook top affords me that choice, with several burners of the same output. Hope this helps....See MoreMore confused than ever....
Comments (79)Ok, I've been making phone calls today and learned something interesting, assuming it's correct information. I called LG to investigate the "water plus" feature and was told that it could be used up to three times per load, adding 1 gallon each time. @AJ, does this sound right to you? Would love to know what you think about your new set and whether they can actually add that much water....See MoreK R
