Gil, Invincible....it is a beautiful hosta but also a slug magnet. So, plant it where you don't have problems with slugs. It has a very thin leaf. I have an extensive database and keep track of all my perennials from their names to the year purchased, cost paid, company/person bought from, height, color description, location planted in my yard, etc etc. I make a copper tag for each perennial arriving in my yard and now am also making up a metal tag and am using outdoor adhesive with my labeller to make up permanent name tags for each perennial. I have the majority of the hostas done now as well as a few irises, sempervivum and daylilies. It sure makes it easier when trading/selling and also when taking pictures for myself or the website to have each perennial correctly named. Honalee, I would highly recommend getting permanent name tags made for each perennial. I realized that I started to duplicate purchase perennials and that is what started me in keeping a detailed database. I found that my memory was just not good enough to keep track of each previous purchase. Brenda

If your seeds are for a hybrid variety, you may find that the offspring from seeds saved doesn't come true to the qualities of the parent plant. It is just how hybrids work. But you can always try the seeds and see what you get. The next time you buy basil seed, look for heirloom or open pollinated varieties for best seed-saving results. The seeds saved from these types of varieties do produce the same quality and characteristics as the original plant. While they may not be as common as open-pollinated or heirloom vegetable seed, there are OP and heirloom basil varieties available. I like "Siam Queen" which is an OP/heirloom Thai Basil type very much. There are other varieties and types to be sure. FataMorgana

It sounds like a simple tub and caulk problem, not really an issue with the Kerdi. Do you recall if the tub's flange was fastened to the wall studs? Normally a nail goes through the flange into each wall stud. That'll prevent some vertical movement/deflection at the flange. I can't say if adding under-support will help at this time. If you hear squeaking and creaking when you're in the tub, that could be a sign of movement. Do you see any movement at the flange when the tub is loaded and unloaded (water, bathers, etc)? Or do you think that the original caulk failed simply due to a one-time "after installation shift" and that the tub is now settled in place? I'd pull the existing caulk. Clean, let dry. Load the tub. Then install silicon. As far as the mold returning, realize that bleach will only kill the surface mold, but not the mold's "roots", so the mold can grow back since it was never killed in the first place. Household bleach is about 6% "bleach" and 94% water. When put on grout or wood, due to its polarity the bleach stays on the surface of the material. It doesn't penetrate into the material. Only the water penetrates. So when you bleach a porous material, you are indeed killing the surface mold, but the water is feeding the mold's roots. Not a truly technical description of what happens. But that's why bleach itself isn't an approved "mold killer".

Thank you for that idea. Kind of one of those situations where our GC is our GC/painter/electrician/plumber/etc. A few jobs are subbed out, but he and his crew do most jobs. Somehow I think it would be easier if he had to make it where another crew worked with what he had done. We are planning on one island light, that splits into multiple lights. (I am not using the right terms, but one hole in the ceiling and multiple bulbs.) Because of that, he wants to beef up the support in that area to hold whatever light we decide on. He is fantastic with "function", just has a bit of a problem with "form". We will probably have to fight him a bit because I am sure he will want to attach it to a joist or something instead of where we want it, which may need extra work done. I remember in the early part of the construction when he placed the two mockup dormers on the roof. Well, he did it so that they could both have holes cut in to act like a sky light in the vaulted part of the great room. Fine idea, except for they looked absolutely rediculous and off center from the outside. He didn't see this though. Made him redo it, change to 3 dormers, and only have the center one "functional" with the other two being for looks only. Because of little things like that, we have to keep an eye on certain details where the best function may not be the best form.
