Attached 4'' backsplash with return down one side?
Comments (2)You wouldn't have a wall to attach it too, so the sidesplash would just be sitting there, an easy target for one of your rambunctious teens to knock loose. Now, if you want to construct a paneled surround for your fridge, or a thin wall to end the cabinet run, you'd have something to attach a side splash to. And, I'm in the category of "would look goofy" as well. That's both function/form negatives....See MoreNarrowing backsplash idea - opinions???
Comments (3)One of the pictures on the link you attached has some horizontal stripes, and I think in princible it could look really nice. The major problem with your plan is that if you have cabinets above, it will likely obscure the top blue stripe from many viewing points. I think you want your accent row at least 4 in below the top. One other problem is that by using 2x2, you're going to have twice as many grout lines in the top row, and I think that may look odd. 2x4 tiles, or 4x4 cut in half would probably look better (as long as the cut side abutts the cabinets at the top). Do you really only have 13" in your bar area? Also, I didn't understand your statement about "in the rest of the kitchen"....See MoreBacksplash? No backsplash?
Comments (30)So we finally decided and the tile went up earlier this week. We are living about 40 minutes away from the house right now, I stopped by the house last evening. We ended up using the suggestion of taping up paper with pictures of the tile - thank you for that suggestion!!! I tried to do photoshop, but I wasn't doing a great job. Seeing it in person helped. We ended up tiling the area above the range and then the 18 inch area between the uppers and counter. In the open shelf area the 18 inches below the lowest shelf are tile, but then above the shelves is paint. Sorry for the poor quality cell phone pictures. It was dusk and the electricity wasn't on. I was also holding my 1 year old at the time....See More4 inch granite backsplash opinions
Comments (16)Is your log home full log or log siding? If full logs have you taken into consideration settling? Logs at bottom of kitchen window height will probably settle roughly a half inch in a year or two. I built a log home a number of years ago and had the granite backsplash nearly up to the window trim. After eighteen months had to pull the bottom trim off and cut it down by a half inch. Othewise too much pressure on trim, countertops and cabinets from the weight of the settling house....See MoreMaria H.
