under cabinet light placement and channel shape

I read through the threads and consensus seems to be to mount led tape lights at the front of the cabinet but I didn't see much discussion on the shape of the channel/extrusion.

The lighting shop I'm using has a strong preference for using a 45 degree extrusion, to throw light at the back of the counter and backsplash. Like this

Of course that cannot throw any direct light on the front of the counters when positioned against the backside of the front cabinet recess. Also if the backsplash is not glossy, or dark, there won't be much reflection.

Another idea is to use a flat extrusion and to offset slightly the front of the cabinet lip

My cabinets have a 1" recess and I calculated a 3/4" offset so the light is not blocked by the cabinet li
