Is it okay to plant knock-out roses now in OK, zone 6?
Comments (12)It's being soaked in the ground now. :) Hopefully that will be okay. Apparently the plant wasn't happy about it though because it stabbed the tar out of my right thumb as I was planting it. I pulled the thorn out and it bled a lot, but since then (about 10 hours ago) my thumb has been really sore and a little swollen, like I'm having a reaction to it. These things aren't poisonous, are they? I've heard people eat roses sometimes. But gosh, my thumb hurts! And it's been all day. I'm not a weenie. I'm just perplexed about why this hasn't gone away. A little thorn-prick should swell up and still hurt half a day later. I've been stabbed by blackberry bushes scores or hundreds of times and I just go on my way without a worry or a complication. This is different....See MoreHouse sold in 6 days? What to do with my plants?
Comments (7)Hi Bradleyo and to everyone! I found this forum last year when I lived in Ohio. I haven't had much time to log on here until now. I read this and thought I should comment on my experience with digging up tropicals from my yard in the middle of winter. Last year exactly around this time I sold my home in Columbus, Ohio to move to Kansas City, Missouri. I had to be out by march. I was really concerned about my trachy and others I had outside, in the ground, with winter protection over them with c7 lights for warmth. I waited for a day above freezing to dig and transport them into my warmer garage to pot for the move. I couldn't imagine leaving my tropicals behind to hope the next owner would take care of them. I dug everything up palms, lemon tree, cactai I had collected from the rockies and southwest, and other plants. Everything did fine with the move. I fertilized them in March, set them out in their pots and they did great. I'm still renting while house hunting so everything is still in pots here but doing great under grow lights. I say take all the plants you really can, pot them and give them a little extra care....See MoreOK to check boxes every day?
Comments (3)Deanie. There is quite a bit of info about Chickadees on the sialis.org web site. I encourage you to read up. I don't check on cool, windy or rainy days and of course never to close to fledging. My Dees are quite social and are used to me. I think every few days is good unless you suspect something may be wrong. I listen for peeping at feeding time and check the outside of the box and the ground daily. Dees are very vocal if there is something going on in or near the box they don't like (they hate Chipmunks and Wrens). There is always good info on the Bluebirding forum for Dees TRES and other cavity nesters. Creeper, nest checks are an important part of providing safe housing. Lots of things (like blowfly, wasps or ants) can put the babies in danger. A good landlord keeps a watchful eye on the babies and knows what to do in emergency situations....See MoreConsidering using oak flooring to create ceiling box beams - that ok?
Comments (4)IMO fake beams always look fake and hardwood flooring comes in many lengths and not ever in my experience 7.5 ' long so you would have many joints and I think it will always look like flooring used for the beams.since 7.5" wide is also an expensive type flooring. Your inspiration pic is a good example of beams that look fake....See Moregardengal48 (PNW Z8/9)
