Choosing counter top to go with cherry cabinets
Comments (2)I'm in the same predicament. I've chosen Huxley in Oak with the Auburn finish. I spent far too much time yesterday looking at counter tops that I can't afford. The counters I saw made from tiles had noticeable seams. I suppose that depends on the installer but I didn't like them. After looking at Corinthian Solid Surface Pyrenees series Tundra, I think I could be happy with that but for the amount I need, I probably will have to make a different choice. There are several I would take and if money were no object I'd have exactly what I want but since that isn't going to happen.........I'll have to pick something. The samples are so little it's impossible to see what it will really look like. My other thought was to get Formica with the beveled edge and upgrade in a couple of years. I will have a farm sink so that also creates its own problems but I've seen them installed above the counter height and I saw a display yesterday with Formica inside the sink hole. I can't wait for the new sink and cabinets many more years so I have decided to get as much of my dream kitchen as I can now and upgrade if I am still alive. It's so much fun choosing everything until I start adding it all up. Everything starts at $500!...See MoreComplementary wood for countertop on cherry? Iroko? Walnut? Mahog

Comments (2)I think you could use either the silgranite or the stainless for your island. For my kitchen I chose the silgranite because I did not want to deal with possible scratches in a stainless sink. I recalled the Breezygirl on this forum has a metallic grey Silgranit prep sink in her gorgeous walnut counter. She reponds to posts on here frequently but must have missed yours. I don't think she'll mind if I post a link to her kitchen. I found this earlier thread that shows her not quite finished kitchen. If you have more questions you could put a shout out post to her. Comments (12)I had a walnut island top in my last house. We put coffee mugs down on it all the time. Yes, after a while there were small scratches, but that's a wood countertop. Once every few months or so I'd clean it off and reapply oil and it was good as new. The only thing that caused a ring for me was a sweaty glass of Coke that someone left overnight. I thought we'd oiled it enough to prevent water rings, but it did leave one. After that I sanded it down, reapplied several more coats of oil, and we never had any more problems. If you have wood counters, you have: -A beautiful counterop -A countertop that will get scratches -A countertop that can be revitalized very easily I love walnut!!...See MoreKatie
