sloppy joe sauce
Comments (3)I wouldn't. 1. No way of knowing a correct processing time. 2. When you're using shelf stable products (soup, ketchup, vinegar and sugar), what is the point of spending the money on jars and lids to basically re-can stuff? If you're planning to cook the hamburger later anyway, you aren't really gaining anything by canning it. This is a cooking recipe, not canning. Deanna...See MoreDo you wing Sloppy Joes?
Comments (21)We have always had 'White' sloppy joes. 1 pound gr. beef (or other..., we used alot of ground lamb back on the farm) 1 small onion finely diced 2 stalks of celery finely diced 1 can of low sodium condensed cream of mushroom soup (or cream of celery) up to 1.5 cups of milk Salt Pepper Sweat the onions and celery in a large skillet with a little oil. When the veggies are soft, add the gr. beef, or turkey, stirring to break it up and brown. When the beef is brown drain off the fat, reduce heat to med-low and add the mushroom soup, stirring it into the meat and veggies, add up to 1 and a half cups of milk until it reaches the consistency that you like. Salt and pepper to taste. Serve. We always served it spooned over a thick slice of bread, with pickles on the side. augie...See MoreRECIPE: sloppy joe sauce for canning
Comments (2)When I make sloppy joe from scratch. I just use ketchup, a bit of mustard, a dash of w. sauce and of course the hamburger is cooked with onions and peppers. When it is all put together, add just a bit of rolled oats, and let it thicken. So, why not just make ketchup? Then put it together when you are ready to fix it. Comments (9)I make a very easy recipe of my mother's: Pick a meat - 3lb piece You can use an inexpensive cut of beef or pork roast. 1/2 c. cider vinegar 1/4 c. sugar 3 T. Dijon mustard 2 jars chili sauce Combine vinegar and sugar till sugar dissolves then add dijon. Pour over meat and add chili sauce. Crock pot 4 to 6 hours. Remove meat from crockpot and drain fat. Shred and return meat to crockpot. Keep warm until serving. On a busy night I have used leftover cooked chicken which I shred. Combine sauce ingredients and cook for 10-15 minutes on the stove top. Add shredded cooked chicken and cook until heated through. This sauce works well on cooktop with ground beef or turkey. Use 2 lbs of ground meat and 1 medium chopped onion sauteed with some salt and pepper in large skillet. Drain fat from ground beef. Return to pan. Pour sauce over, cover and let simmer low heat on stove till serving. Very simple, versatile and tastes good as well....See Moreparty_music50
