Comments (5)yeah, that's probably what it is. i'm not sure about the flowers since I mowed it down last year because I was worried about how quickly it was growing and found the plant to be rather unsightly. The attached link shows what is growing in my yard. If somebody planted it on purpose I'd sure like to have a little chat with them... I spent a few hours yesterday trying to pull some of it up and was able to do approximately 8-10 sq ft in that time. the roots are slightly smaller in diameter than a pencil and boy is there a mess of them. I managed to collect a good 20 gallons or so just from that small section. i'm wondering if a tiller would be a good option at this point, although i'm not sure if leaving all that root mass in the soil is a good idea, nor am I sure whether a tiller would even be able to cut through it all that well. ed Here is a link that might be useful:...See Morelarge-flowered St John's Wort (pic)
Comments (7)That is very lovely. But like you said, it looks a lot taller than the plant I saw in her garden, and the flowers look bigger too. Also, the frondosum seems to grow from one main stem, and the plant that I saw had many stems growing from the ground, something like a small spirea. Also, if it's a cultivar, it would have to be an older one. She told me that she's had it for a *long* time; she got it from her mother who is probably long passed away. I hope it doesn't have brown flowers hanging on as you describe. That's one of the *many* things that I so dislike about Bradford pear....See MoreWANTED: St. John's Wort or Mother Wort plant
Comments (1)St. Johns Wort (Hypericum perforatum) is a weed here in the Pacific NW (I am constantly pulling it here in my Portland garden). You should be able to find it easily if you just take a walk. The defining quality of the plant is the leaves that when held up to light look as though someone has put pinholes in them (perforated them). The stems this time of year are reddish and there may still be some blooms showing. Be aware that this plant can become invasive....See MoreElderberry and St. Johns Wort
Comments (1)Perennials and woody plants often do very well fall planted - often better than spring planted in my experience. So long as the ground isn't frozen you can plant. FataMorgana...See Moreheadmotty
