They're also slightly warped, so they rub against each other. This will be a problem when I repaint them. If they're warped and bump into each other, you might put the inside one on the outside track and vice versa (provided they fit that way and the hardware works that way).

I think the luminettes may be a good solution. Why don't you look at them. There are usually window people around who will work with you in a "free shop at home" environment so you can try them in your room during the day and see if they work for you. In my experience, seeing into a room from outside during the day is difficult as that's the way the light is going and often there are reflections from the glass. So you might want to look in from outside at different times of day to see how much exposure you have. Another alternative, which you mentioned, is a window film. They have films that have gradations of privacy so you can determine at which height the window is obscured so you can get privacy lower down and light and view up above. You could try something similar by using sheers on the bottom half of the window and exposure up above. But these looks tend to be less contemporary. You'd have to be creative about how to mount it to the window so it didn't interfere with the functioning of the doors. I would keep it as one room. I see no issue with 2 guests coordinating the bathroom usage. You say you get a more serviceable room with plan #2. I'd go with that. I have vertical (not horizontal) blinds on my sliding glass door. I like that the stackback is quite narrow, and that the vertical slats can be opened or closed so as to let in as little light or as much as I want. When fully-closed, they provide privacy, but that also depends on which amount of light filtering you choose when you purchase them. Vertical blinds can look cheap unless you buy from a good manufacturer like Hunter Douglas; you have to be willing to pay for nice ones.
