Flooring Design Dilemma Bathrooms

Vanity top and flooring selection

We are redoing our master bath. Taking out the giant tub and replacing with a 6x4' shower. I would like to use Pietra Bernini Bianco polished porcelain for the shower walls. Need some advice on a vanity top and flooring suggestions that will coordinate with the shower tile I have selected. Thinking of a darker stained vanity. I would love the Houzzer's input.

Couple of thoughts for you: what is the floor material going to be? What is the shower floor material going to be-it needs to be smaller like a mosaic, something that tile setter can slope to the drain. Large pieces are not very successful to slope in a shower floor.

If you are setting the 12x24 porcelain wall tile on the horizon you need to be sure your ceiling and floor are very level or you will get a tight grout line opening up to a very thick grout line. For the vanity counter top, I would select a quartz that is a solid color that comes out of the wall tile since it has a lot of movement in it-something on the lighter side as you want a dark stain vanity. Take your wall tile to a tile showroom, they should have quartz and also sort out your bath floor and shower floor. What is your step over shower dam going to be out of: shower floor tile or bath floor tile. It maters because you need to miter the edges. You can also do the quarts from the counter top, that is easiest for setter to miter. You need to know your porcelain wall tile has no finish pieces for the raw edge. Check into "schluter" for the finish edge, it is a metal strip that sits on the end run of the tile so you do not have an open, grout line.

Schluter comes in different metal finished like satin nickel, bronze, chrome, etc. you can get it at Lowes or Home Depot or have tile setter buy it.

My recommendation: hire a designer in your area to help you and pay an hourly consulting fee so you get this right with no costly mistakes. Bathrooms are complex.

Or is this considered too busy for that size shower? I want the tile placed horizontally.

Mondoct -- I love your vanity. I've spent hours and hours looking for something close to what's spinning in my noodle and yours comes closest. I love how the crown molding seems to run down the wall and blends with the cabinets, almost like they're the same piece of wood spreading all over the bathroom. We're having a vanity built that should look similar to this, but not so much detail in the moldings. We're going for more of a modern country look. Anyway, we just purchased a slab of reclaimed Myrtle to be used for our countertop. Almost of the contractors we've met with have cringed when I've said we're using wood for the countertop, but we're confident it will work. Wondering what you're used on your teak. Teak is as water resistant a wood as possible, but what did you finish it with? I keep hearing that Waterlox is one of the best products to use so we're planning on applying multiple coats to our Myrtle. Kudos again on a beautiful vanity and bathroom. Number three gets my vote too. A beautiful faucet for a beautiful vanity. If you're really concerned about the white H and C on the handles, try checking with the supplier. Those caps should just screw off and sometimes they'll give you the option of having caps that match the finish of the rest of the faucet.

If you want something very plain and simple, then get a ceramic or porcelain top with an integrated sink. Here is one from Home Depot. We didn't get ours there - but I am very happy with something similar. Looks great, cleans like a dream and available in different sizes.

It's a little too Grand Canyon for me. I really think these stone-box bathrooms will be dated quickly, and a shower is an expensive thing to tear out because of dated tile. I would consider it for the floor and use a solid or lightly-patterned quartz for the counter. A possibility for the shower is a large format subway tile in one of the mid-tone colors of the floor tile. Use a low-gloss tile to give a nature-inspired palette that works with the stone floor.

Thank you for the comprehensive response. Lauren, I plan to use 2x2" tile for the shower floor. The wall tile is polished but comes in a mat finish. I could use that on the floor but worry it could be too much. I would like to use the schlueter system with a low profile. I like the metal edge finish.

Thank you also Mayflowers. Thank you for your input as well. This is going in a lake house so I don't want it to be too formal. However I like clean lines. I am overwhelmed at the choices.

Lauren, it looks like there is a bull nose option in this tile. https://www.msistone.com/porcelain-pietra/bernini-bianco/ but I think the metal edge might be cleaner and more updated???

I just think this pattern might be too busy to use on floor and shower walls.

Should I use the polished or mat in the shower? The shower will be 4x6' with an 18" shelf space outside to one end of the shower. 7'8" x 10' total. The wall with the shower is the 7'8" side. thanks.
