Sorry, I realize now that you already tried acetone. Did you thoroughly scrub with the acetone or just do a single wipe? I found a single wipe did not remove the adhesive residue for me and had to do some serious scrubbing. I still suspect in your case that it's residue that has permeated the stone. I never tried just applying sealer (and I wanted a non-enhancing sealer in my case) because I was afraid it would simply seal in the residue and the mark would still show. But with some work, the acetone did work for me. I haven't tried yet, but I had some tiles scraps that sat for a year outside with masking tape. I decided to try cutting them into coasters and they also have a dark mark where the tape was. I intend to try acetone on them, but haven't yet tried. I imagine that the longer the adhesive sits, the more it will seep into the stone.

I'm hoping for the best for you and your granite. We will be installing luce di luna quartzite soon and this is a very white stone. I tested a small piece with everything I could think of before we committed to it---red wine, ketchup, soy sauce, tomato sauce, olive oil, and liquid dish detergent. Many of these seemed to leave a spot initially but as rcvt said everything resolved on its own after awhile. This is why I decided to not worry. I have read the same thing on this forum about marble and other white stones. Maybe what you are seeing as a dark spot is just moisture that will evaporate in time or a precipitate from the soap that can be removed with a special cleaner or polish.

I also had new (light colored) granite installed in mid December. About three weeks after the install, we began to notice the green. After much time and effort researching the problem we found out we have green bloom. Our green bloom is around where the fabricator cut out the sink, faucet and soap dispenser. We have had both the stone distributor and the fabricator out to see the problem. Stone distributor confirms it is not a stone problem (no minerals in our stone which would cause green discoloration)! Fabricator insists he didn't do anything to the stone during fabrication that would cause the green! He assured us he does not use the products that cause the green bloom?????? We contacted the Granite and Marble Institute and they confirmed for us that our problem was caused by products used during fabrication. After all the discussions and denials we have decided to try to resolve the problem ourselves using a (recommended) product called Mangia Macchia. The last thing we want is to replace our granite (spending more $$$$ or suing someone and then dealing with the mess of replacement and the problem of finding granite we like again). As we move forward trying to remove the green bloom, it is our understanding that the product needs to be applied multiple times before you see results. We began the first treatment yesterday. We took before and after pictures so we can document the results of what the product does to the green bloom and our sealed granite! If Mangia Macchia does not work we have a bigger problem since our fabricator refuses to admit they are at fault! I will keep you posted as to our progress resolving our horrible green bloom problem. Hopefully, this posting will help others who have experience the same problem and have been told by their fabricator and distributor they never heard of or have seen this situation before!!!!!

Somehow my posting never made it so let me try again. I believe that Cambrian & Nordic are granites. I researched these but did not find as much on them as I did the honed AB (probably because there are no problems. Try doing searches on other granites and you won't find much either.). What I did find on them came mostly from this site. Most people said that they did not show the finger prints and were easier to maintain than the AB. I also had my husband go to the stone yard and really question the maintenance of the Cambrian versus the honed AB. They were very positive toward the cambrian (and not the AB). If you hear of anything positive or negative, please let me know. I have a 12x12 sample of the Cambrian which we are going to seal and "experiment" on over the next week or so. Also, I love soapstone. I would have gotten that but I was concerned about having to oil and sand out scratches, etc. I heard it does not take long, but I am a working mother and I have a million things around here that do not take a lot of time. Unfortunately, they all add up! :-)
