So I tried out my new Shark Navigator vacuum.....
Comments (23)Susan- do you still love your Shark now that you've had it for a while? Since I gave my little kitchen Sanyo vacuum to my DD I need to replace it and I went to BB&B to compare the Shark and the Dyson Animal. Obviously the biggest difference is price - but I'm willing to pay for a quality machine that can handle the dog hair. While I still use my Kenmore canister in the rest of the house I want a bagless in the kitchen so that I can easily empty the bin and not have dog hair sitting in a vacuum bag and giving off a stale, doggy smell. But I was surprised at how difficult it was to push the Dyson. The ball feature works great and it does turn easily but the overall weight of the Dyson made me decide against it. And that was just pushing it on the bare floor, it would be harder on carpet. I'm accustomed to my ultra lightweight Sanyo and even my Kenmore canister is easier. So then I tried the Shark and while it is lighter and easier to maneuver than the Dyson I was still surprised at the amount of effort it took to push. Certainly much less than the Dyson but that's when it occurred to me that the reason is the weight distribution. On the Kenmore the weight is resting on the floor - either in the power head or the canister that I'm pulling. With the Shark there's more weight along the handle than I'm used to. So now I plan on going back to BB&B and trying the Shark again and then trying a stick vacuum. The arthritis in my hand makes me more aware of the need for a vacuum that doesn't put too much strain on it....See MoreTired of buying new vacuum cleaners - Suggestions Wanted
Comments (36)WIshiwereintheup, I am still using the bare floor tool, extension hose and other extension tools from my first vacuum -- a Hoover bought about 45 years ago. It came with them -- in those days few upright vacs were designed with a hose that comes off for tool use; the extension had to be plugged into the unit when I wanted to use it. I've jerry rigged various adapters to allow them to be used with later vacuums. They are perfectly good; the bare floor accessory and extra length hose for my current vacuum was ridiculously expensive. I don't remember what happened to that Hoover. I think maybe when my DH used it to vacuum the garage without a bag in it (I clearly remember that!), that ruined it, but not sure. It would have been about 20 years old then and still a good vac....See MoreWhat vacuum (yes again but for 2018)to buy
Comments (16)I am pleased to see all the suggestions. I will be replacing a kenmore progressive (cannister) not sure of age but somewhere around 15 or so. The thing still works and has great suction, but somehow it seems the connection between the body and the carpet thingy is not working so using it on carpet is not happening well. It's been a great vacuum for sure and for several years we had 2 shedding dogs( none at the moment but will be getting a dog again). So this thing really served us well. I don't like how cumbersome and heavy it is so I am especially receptive to the upright versions. (as well as the bagless). Every time I am in costco I stare at the miele and the sharks, and keep tracking (getting dizzy) the promos between kohl's and costco and every where else. I think it could happen this weekend...........I just get so confused between the many shark navigator versions as well as shark rotator and so on....See MoreRecommendation for cordless vacuum. Comments (78)@deegw I ordered a part x 2 (one for me and one for DD2) that was 50% off. The website said it fit our stick vacs. Nope. After chatting online I could not send mine back (DD2 has hers). Spent over an hour on hold yesterday. Finally got a lady that sent me one return label (they are not included in the boxes!!!!!!!!), then got cut off. She called backs about 20 minutes later and while I was on the phone sent DD2's return label in a second email. I read on the Dyson Customer Support forum page, there is a huge issue with returns, not getting refund or it taking forever ever they receive the item back. I will be tracking and downloading in case I need to dispute with my CC company. I am not so sure I want something that shows me where the dirt is. LOL Have you ever walked around with a flashlight at night? It is scary, and I consider myself a clean house person!...See Morededtired
