Question regarding getting a soil test...
Comments (38)Kimmsr said, "4. So the gardener does not spend money, unnecessarily, on some kind of lime that may not correct the problem but can get the right lime."- There is no right lime. Now the thought of lime is in the newcomer's head. A lot of yankees come down here and lime the soil, and they are very sad cuz it ruins the garden for a few years. It's limey soil from the bottom of an ancient ocean.. This throws the newcomer off for the product even being mentioned, and I can go back and show that these types of comments are clustered amongst a very tiny number of posters. It's all about not offering helpful specifics, putting on useless airs, and sprinkling pixie dust everywhere.. Why even mention lime? To show you know enough to be dangerous? And whatever happened to men, manning up? I say, practice "Zen in the Garden", and listen to what the newcomer is saying and know the facts first... cuz they ain't gonna know what terminology, quirks, and motives (boredom?) one has, that's why they are relying on complete strangers with a question. Common courtesy demands concision in this type of exchange, no?...maybe so... Mackel...See MoreHauling Rocks on a Stone Boat, Sled, or Dolly
Comments (25)I don't have any rock nearby and I wanted the "natural" look. So I went to a local nursery that had some Field Stone and bought 615 pounds worth. I loaded it from the pallet, into a wagon, out of the wagon onto a scale for weighing, and then into the back of my wife's Nissan Murano. When I got home I then unloaded all of them. No bad for a guy who had back surgery in November....See MoreHow about a mini get together in Florida
Comments (28)I just got off the phone with my folks. They are all for our get together at their house. So the date is set for Feb. 10 in Naples. I was thinking about 11AM to start. How about instead of going to a restaurant we get some food from Boston Market. My Dad said they just had a dinner to go for 4 with plenty of food for about $25 so the cost wouldn't be too bad when divided by how many of us are there. Or we could order some pizzas. Just want to keep it simple and no work for anyone. If this is alright with everyone I will get the paper plates and other things that we would need. I will also need to know what everyone likes to drink ahead of time so I can get that also. Joan I asked my Dad about having someone stay in their motorhome in the driveway and he said they can't do that in Naples. He said there is a WalMart not far from his home where folks stay overnight. Hope that would work for you and Kenny if you can come. Gazania, my Dad has Post Polio and understands about the steps. He said he could have a ramp made and was very concerned about your comfort. I am sure everyone will love my folks. They are in their 80's and very outgoing people. You will also get to meet my son, Shannon, as he will be there for my Dad's 87's birthday. I am really looking forward to this and hope you all are too. Please contact me at runvswing@hotmail.com to get directions and also phone numbers you will need. If there are any questions I will be happy to answer them as best as I can....See MoreTexas Tour Waco (3 pictures)
