Dolly, in answer to your question: most do not post here, anymore. So much has changed at the KT. The get together's were awesomely fun!

Buzzard, the hostess lost her husband shortly after the meeting.
Not that sure about some of the others.

Comments (7)Hello Tina, your new mix should be fine for a couple of weeks I would think. Sorry I can't help you with regard to the fertilisers you mention as I am not familiar with those brands being from 'over the pond'! The same applies to how often you should water them as my climate is so different. However, even here I can water them at least every other day during the summer as it's surprising how much water they will use in a fast draining mix as others have pointed out. I fertilise once a week spring to autumn. As for trimming roots above the soil...I do this when I raise the caudex each spring, but mainly they are those thin feeder roots that will dry out anyway when exposed. I have also been known to trim those slightly thicker ones as well, say just under pencil thickness if they have been sprouting randomly from the really chunky ones. As long as there's plenty of feeder roots left below, you are fine. The roots/caudex/leaves will bleed clear irritant sap so beware. I loaded it from the pallet, into a wagon, out of the wagon onto a scale for weighing, and then into the back of my wife's Nissan Murano. When I got home I then unloaded all of them. Comments (11)I have never dead headed any of my lantana. The birds like the berries on the ones that form berries. I just don't want to take the time to do something like that, so I just let 'em grow. The only thing I do to one of my lantana plants is to trim it back a little if it starts to get out of bounds and grow over the front sidewalk too much - which is maybe once in the growing season. Cynthia - I have never seen a dog eat the berries. Maybe your dog has built up an immunity to them. They may be toxic, but compared to what? arsenic? Probably far from that. Your dog may get a little bit of an upset stomach, but it would probably take eating a whole lot of lantana to really harm him. And, sometimes only parts of a plant is toxic. For example, I like to eat rhubarb (us former yankees like that stuff, especially as a pie filling). The stems are edible, but the leaves are very poisonous. Another plant that is like that is violets. A lady was telling me that she used the leaves to make tea, but didn't remove all of the stems. She ended up in the emergency room because just the stems have a toxicity in it that can affect the liver and cause all kinds of problems. She is okay now, but it could have been worse. The leaves are okay - just don't use the stems. Actually, after what she told me, I wouldn't try using any part of that plant for a tea! Comments (28)I just got off the phone with my folks. They are all for our get together at their house. So the date is set for Feb. 10 in Naples. I was thinking about 11AM to start. How about instead of going to a restaurant we get some food from Boston Market. My Dad said they just had a dinner to go for 4 with plenty of food for about $25 so the cost wouldn't be too bad when divided by how many of us are there. Or we could order some pizzas. Just want to keep it simple and no work for anyone. If this is alright with everyone I will get the paper plates and other things that we would need. I will also need to know what everyone likes to drink ahead of time so I can get that also. Joan I asked my Dad about having someone stay in their motorhome in the driveway and he said they can't do that in Naples. He said there is a WalMart not far from his home where folks stay overnight. Hope that would work for you and Kenny if you can come. Gazania, my Dad has Post Polio and understands about the steps. He said he could have a ramp made and was very concerned about your comfort. I am sure everyone will love my folks. They are in their 80's and very outgoing people. You will also get to meet my son, Shannon, as he will be there for my Dad's 87's birthday.
