Dolly, in answer to your question: most do not post here, anymore. So much has changed at the KT. The get together's were awesomely fun!

Buzzard, the hostess lost her husband shortly after the meeting.
Not that sure about some of the others.

Comments (21)Dawn, Thanks for the info on the brugs and daturas! I have grown white single flowered daturas for years. Mine come back from the roots. I grew from seed two different varieties of the single white last year and they also came back from the roots this year. I recently planted some datura seeds, some are doubles, I think in purple and yellow. I am curious if they will grow as big as the single whites and if they will winter over? My seeds are barely up now. I love datura and brugmansia and am glad to know that other Okies grow them as well! Hope to see many blooms this year!!! ***Grannygreenthumb***...Do you know what Garden Center the lady has in Tulsa that you got your brug from? I live in Tulsa and wonder if she sells them here? How is your brug since you planted it in the ground? ***Beerhog*** Are you in zone 7a or 7b?? I planted three brugs in the ground this year and am debating on leaving them in the ground. I have sandy soil. This is my first year to grow them. I am growing many from cuttings and will keep them in pots until they are bigger. Do yours in the ground grow as tall as your picture every year and bloom well?? I have heard if they freeze to the ground they take longer to bloom. Comments (25)I don't have any rock nearby and I wanted the "natural" look. So I went to a local nursery that had some Field Stone and bought 615 pounds worth. I loaded it from the pallet, into a wagon, out of the wagon onto a scale for weighing, and then into the back of my wife's Nissan Murano. When I got home I then unloaded all of them. Comments (11)I have never dead headed any of my lantana. The birds like the berries on the ones that form berries. I just don't want to take the time to do something like that, so I just let 'em grow. The only thing I do to one of my lantana plants is to trim it back a little if it starts to get out of bounds and grow over the front sidewalk too much - which is maybe once in the growing season. Cynthia - I have never seen a dog eat the berries. Maybe your dog has built up an immunity to them. They may be toxic, but compared to what? arsenic? Probably far from that. Your dog may get a little bit of an upset stomach, but it would probably take eating a whole lot of lantana to really harm him. And, sometimes only parts of a plant is toxic. For example, I like to eat rhubarb (us former yankees like that stuff, especially as a pie filling). The stems are edible, but the leaves are very poisonous. Another plant that is like that is violets. A lady was telling me that she used the leaves to make tea, but didn't remove all of the stems. She ended up in the emergency room because just the stems have a toxicity in it that can affect the liver and cause all kinds of problems. She is okay now, but it could have been worse. The leaves are okay - just don't use the stems. Actually, after what she told me, I wouldn't try using any part of that plant for a tea! Comments (53)To me, asking "what's your budget" is like a car dealer asking "what do you want your monthly payment to be?" I don't have a fixed dollar amount that I can spend on anything, or a hard cash limit in most cases. Every purchase is an individualized value calculation, and I don't happen to know what everything in the universe costs. If I'm looking for a contractor to build me a new kitchen, I have in mind the level of function and finishes that I want. I have no idea what that will cost. So if I say "$5000" then I'll end up with Habitat Restore cast-offs and sheet vinyl floors. No good. But if I say "$100K" then I'll end up with exotic counters and stuff I really don't value. No good either. So starting with a budget doesn't work for me. What does work is "here's the look I'm after. I want wood cabinets, granite counters, drawers in all the bases, and heated tile floors." They say "that will run between $40-50K." Then I say "hmm, that sounds reasonable" or "Hmm, that seems like more than I want to spend, can you break that down between the components so I can see the cost drivers and decide what's worth keeping and what I want to cut out?" And yes, for me it comes down to things like "it's an extra $1500 to put double stacked crown molding on the cabinets? Nah, never mind on that." But I might bump my budget up by $1500 for heated floors. Do most people really know what they want to spend on a bathroom or kitchen or room addition? I have to shop first, and have a collaborative process to figure out what budget I'm most comfortable with....See More
