Hi All, have only stumbled back in this forum by chance again, though thought I would add a comment; I live in Australia with a climate zone equivalent to 9 in the US, have grown the following plants in this climate; 2010 J. T. DAVIS (Grace, 1999) 2009 SKINWALKER (Roberts-N., 1997) 2007 LAVENDER BLUE BABY (Carpenter, 1996) 2006 ED BROWN (Salter, 1994) 2005 FOOLED ME (Reilly-Hein 1990) 2004 MOONLIT MASQUARADE (Salter, 1992) 2002 BILL NORRIS (Kirchhoff, D. 1993) 2001 IDA'S MAGIC (Munson, I. 1988) The soils in this area are rich volcanic red soils very deep, with wet season mostly summer & fall. All of the above plants (particularly prior to 'Rust') were exceptional performers, though now most of them have been superseded by either seedlings of my own which do well in this climate or new cultivars with more dramatic colors. I would recommend to any one who wants to take a chance on a beautiful plant to try; 2010 J. T. DAVIS (Grace, 1999) 2009 SKINWALKER (Roberts-N., 1997) as they are still in my collection & are exceptional. J. T. Davis; is a bud builder, prolific flowering, exceptional season, fantastic flower shape, & creates a great show in the garden even with rust also is very fertile both ways. Skinwalker; terrific color, mass of flowers, good rust tolerance here, long flower season, Flowers present well on bush creating a great spectacle. LAVENDER BLUE BABY (dip); since the onset of rust in my garden this one does not perform any where near as prolific as it used to be, bush is prone to rust in wet seasons (shabby appearance) color does not contrast much with foliage though was exceptional in the past. In the past I have grown several thousand registered daylilies, as well as possibly 20,000 to 40,000 seedlings. though once rust appeared here have only kept approx 30 plants. These plants in my mind here in this area, are exceptional, only wish I could see them with out rust am sure they would be amazing garden specimens? examples of ones I like are CITRIX (Stamele), MALASIAN MARKETPLACE (Salter), CAREFREE SUNSET (Stamele), COOL ELEGANCE (Nunan - Aus.), MERYL (Nunan - Aus.), (SENSE OF WONDER (Trimmer), BORN TO RUN (Stamele) & PLANET MAX (Reed) all great flower displays, reasonable rust tolerance & beautiful colors. I agree, the information posted about how cultivars do for people in different locations is priceless. You don't get that out of a database or garden sales website. Here is what a responded to the Robin with a few corrections (I figured out I was mixing cultivars in my brain and writing comments about the wrong plant...oops!) ROSES IN SNOW- I was disappointed with this one in my garden this year. I can forgive it blooming on short scapes and having few blooms due to it having been planted in May, however, it was pretty much red with very little edge. I've heard others complain of the same thing after several years in their gardens. I'm going to wait to see what it does next year but my hopes are not real high. SCHNICKEL FRITZ- I saw this one first on a garden visit and later received a clump of it as a gift at a local club event. I'm really looking forward to seeing it bloom in my own garden. The day I saw it at the other garden it had chosen to poly instead of double. I'm told that it occasionally does that here, especially early in the season. It was a beautiful clump with a lot of buds. MOSES' FIRE- Like SF I saw this one first on a garden visit and which was right on the early side of bloom season. It bloomed single on the day I visited the garden but the color was so hot that I fell in love with it immediately. year. WILD HORSES- MY VOTE. This one's performance for me was phenominal even in its first year. I received a clump on May 15. Put it in the ground and it bloomed from June 27 to August 8 on 9 scapes. Every flower was perfect quality. In fact it took a blue ribbon at our local show. The scapes again were shorter than typical due to short time between planting and bloom but I gather that is typical in first year plants. To show its vigor it set pod well and each flower held up perfectly to water & heat w/o melting or fading seriously, even on 100 degree days. This performance gives it my vote. Others in my club tell me it does fine over the winter for them. Seen in other's gardens: SABINE BAUR- unfortunately I was not impressed with it as the day I visited was after a cool evening and the form was strange, just not evenly open. It looked odd though the color combination was beautiful. Perhaps if I had seen it on a different day a little bit later in the season I would have a different opinion. BUTTERED POPCORN- I saw this one at a local garden center. I nearly brought it home right then & there but I was on a mission to ID my diploid yellow that in every way resembles Mary Todd, including scent which is as I recall why I decided it wasn't this cultivar. So, I was too focused on the immediate task. It is a nice bright yellow and reading the positive comments on the Robin & here make me reconsider it. Have seedlings coming from each of these and I certainly hope they carry the wonderful qualities of their parents: CELEBRATION OF ANGELS, SPACECOAST STARBURST, SPACECOAST TINY PERFECTION

Kathy: Nice photo of CIM. I did notice that MARGO REED INDEED is listed as SEV but I noticed yesterday it is dying back like the dormants do. Anyone else that grows it notice the same thing? mantis:Thank you for the offer of HAI and we shall see next year how MRI does here before I add another. swontgirl: I'm sure someone grows CIM in your neck of the woods but not on the list you mentioned. Good point on the Stout Medal but if a winner had to get votes in all regions, I highly doubt any of them would have won. BUT then we don't know for sure since AHS doesn't publish the breakdown by region for this particular award. Julia

Ed Brown was not good here either. It was a puny plant that never increased much. We got it because everyone said it would put an edge on a fence post. All it did for us was give us puny seedlings. We have had trouble with Heavenly Angel Ice. It just doesn't seem to want to grow. Maybe we need to move it. We didn't like the color of Carnival in Mexico. It was not as vibrant as the pictures show. We got Rose F. Kennedy this season, but it died. Tet. Rose F. Kennedy hasn't done well for us either, but since that is a conversion, it doesn't really reflect on the original. We just got Heavenly United We Stand. I'm anxious to see how that does for us. Jamie Gossard says it's his best daylily ever. The oldest one we are growing is Playboy. We saw it in a friend's garden and Bob loved the color so we got one. It's a little too plain for my tastes. We also grow Bill Norris (wonderful variety), Primal Scream, Fooled Me, and North Wind Dancer. We need to get Entwined in the Vine and Mayor of Munchkinland. Like Maryl, I am not wanting to spend 100 dollar on it, especially since I worry about hardiness. Nancy
