Bleeding Red Fabric Question
Comments (8)Sandra, I had the same problem with red fabric I bought on sale from a quilt shop while on a vacation. I washed it first with color catchers and they turned bright red. I washed it twice in hot water with Retayne and it still bleeds just as much as the first time. You would think that by now the fabric would be pink lol!! I have been told that todays fabrics are dyed differently and salt and vinegar will not set the dyes. If you want to try the Retayne it should set the dye in the fabric with one hot washing, the instructions are on the bottle and I used a candy themometer to make sure I had it hot enough. The second time I let it sit overnight. I think I just got a bad dye batch and I will use it on a denim raggedy quilt. Good Luck!!! Rosa...See MorePicture of Couch With Toile Pillows?
Comments (21)Thank you for your advice, mitchdesj. Because I was unable to find red buffalo checked fabric like I wanted, I ordered a large oblong tablecloth (sturdy) in a red buffalo check. I can sew and will have no problem making pillows from this. Just wondering if I should just use two of each -- the red toile pillows and the red buffalo check. If so, should one set be larger than the other. And, do I need another color in the mix -- like black? Right now, I plan to just use all red and white pillows -- the toile and the buffalo check....See MoreLots of remodeling done- need new rug, sofa slipcover and pillows
Comments (2)This remodeling was prompted by a leaking dishwasher and we had to move everything out ASAP so the guys could remove everything that got wet, so I got no 'before' photos. Having such a big empty space got me thinking of how things could be rearranged. I did find some old photos. The couch is white and pretty modern/cool looking under those big brown slipcover but the white upholstery shows too much dirt to not have a slipcover. Hoping to find a cover that would allow the legs/shape to show more. I do have a second matching end table I'd like to put where the bird swing was. You can also see where a round rug might be the best shape given that bird platform corner juts out into the room: Fireplace/mantle are the same but the aquarium and little thing with blankets are no longer there, I added flowers to that vase and there is a grey round mirror: Bird area will remain pretty much the same. My bird is never locked in his cage (little door on the side he uses), so he needs a 'bird proof' space all his own. I do at least try to keep his area neat and orderly. The floor protector in this photo will be reused on the new hard floors as well. Here is the bar area/general current state of our living area; While mine is currently packed away, the 'piano' in the model is not a 'real' piano. I built this exact stand/bench for a digital piano from this tutorial but painted mine light gray instead of staining it. I had it under the bar before but think it would be nicer in front of the window: Credit to https://makeit-loveit.com/diy-digital-piano-stand-plus-bench...See Morepillows for sofa
Comments (5)I also have this chair in the room. The zebra print is Red and Natural, actually., with a red velvet back. I agree the other one may be too busy and red/rust/orange/gold. Thank you!...See MoreOlychick
