Before & After New Vintage Bath
Comments (17)Maow - We are very happy with the medicine cabinet. The quality is great. The mirror is beveled and the shelves are glass. Its very sturdy and solid. Kami - Its very hard to imagine how it will all look and feel when planning the bathroom. I used a several inspiration bathrooms to help make decisions. Here are links to all three (first two are posters here, so don't think they will have issue): http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://i230.photobucket.com/albums/ee27/classicbath/IMG_1878.jpg&imgrefurl=http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/bath/gal0120435821679.html&h=640&w=427&sz=102&hl=en&start=301&um=1&tbnid=8qQ3-hkgoZF87M:&tbnh=137&tbnw=91&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbathroom%2Bsubway%2Btile%26start%3D288%26ndsp%3D18%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DN http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/bath/msg0207503029518.html We wanted a vintage style in keeping with our teens-1920 era bungalow. But, we also wanted bath fixtures we'd enjoy, even though its a very small bathroom. We researched and ordered a lot online. I have not noticed any shadow from the light over the medicine cabinet...with three lights in the bathroom and a dimming switch we have a lot of lighting choices. The shower pan is fiberglass, with a textured floor...we really did not give a huge amount of thought to that purchase, basing it strictly on dimensions so now I'm hoping it holds up well. We have a tub in the upstairs bathroom, and DH had a very strong urge to stop taking showers in a tub. I think that link kgwlisa's bathroom will help you visualize because she also used octagon floor tile. Thank you all for your compliments and kind words! Comments (21)Very nice makeover. Oh, how I can relate. I love the new comforter as well as the paint color. I finally did a makever of my own DD's room right before she left for college. I swore I wouldn't do it unless she promised to keep it neat. Well, that didn't happen, but the room itself still looks great. I'll bet your DD is over the moon with the reno! What a nice surprise for her birthday. Great job. Happy Birthday to your DD!...See MoreBathroom Before and 'Almost There' After
Comments (26)I got the shower curtain at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I actually found it at Target online but the store didn't have them in stock. Google "tree shower curtain" and it should come up. They had it in black or brown tree and also a dark background with a white tree. They are also on eBay but I couldn't wait for shipping. Plus I wanted to see and feel it in person. Be careful - some of them look like fabric shower curtains online but they are vinyl. The one I got at BB&B is fabric and I got a clear liner to go with it....See MoreBefore/During/After - A "Transitional" Journey
Comments (20)So just like that, it seemed things were flying and we had to make decisions FAST. Like, lighting. We had been thinking about pendants over the peninsula, but thanks to the wonder of Google SketchUp, we realized this was too much vertical clutter with the dining room RIGHT THERE, presumably with some dangly light fixture . So frantically, I (we) picked out the most awesome dining room light and we decided to go with recessed lights over the peninsula instead. And then there was the issue of under/inside cabinet lights and electrical outlet placement. Oh my! We had some task lighting angled power strips that our contractor gave us, but we decided not to use them and go with regular outlets. I went low & horizontal, but kind of wish I hadn't. Whatevs. For under cabinet lights, we did more searching and ended up with Armacost LED puck lights both in and under the cabinets. The light over sink went to a light switch/outlet to left, the peninsula lights, main recessed lighting, under/in cabinet lights and dining room light all went to one bank of switches all on dimmers. That was just a lot of things to decide. Here you can see the wiring for the lighting and all the plumbing done, plus the insulation. And then, wow drywall! Dry wall and the framing for the pantry entry way Texturing was next - we have the old world or skip trowel type of texturing? Not sure what you call it. And then windows were in and the paint went up. After many, many test paints. Who knew it's so hard to pick out a gray? Ok, everyone. In the end, we went with everyone else and got Revere Pewter. The windows here came in wrong, the bottom of the single hung were not supposed to have grids. So those got reordered, no biggie. Here's the breaking through from the outside to make the windows! Finally the wall is open and the plastic is down! And you can see the tons of paint colors we tried. Living room windows are also in and more paint samples ... You can see where the GIANT built ins were by the paint. We could not have been more sick of tan at this point. Tan walls and tan ceilings were just a bit overkill. And so ends another installment of Kitchen Remodel Saga....See MoreMaxwell Design
