Granite with Benjamin Moore Dove White cabs? Via Lactea?

Looking for black granite to go with BM Dove White painted perimeter cabinets and med brown stained island (see pix). Not crazy about Absolute Black or cosmic black. Black galaxy bit too sparkly. Found some via lactea that looks nice, but I can't convince myself that the veining is creamy enough. Opinions?

Sorry the granite pictures have a lot of reflected images in them, but the veining is visible.

For back splash, we are doing Crossville Savoy white matte (it is a soft white) in a herringbone pattern.

I hope that your experience with black granite will be better than mine has been. Water spots! No matter how often I clean, the black granite shows up spots. It makes me feel like Lady MacBeth!

Thanks to all for your recommendations! I have only made it to the Benjamin Moore store but did buy a LOT of samples. I painted my samples on 1/2 size sheets of poster board to see which ones I liked the best. Of those, I painted my top 4 colors on foam board which is really easy to prop up with my tile and granite samples. So far, I'm really liking the BM Bone White and BM Frappe. The warmer colors seem to work best with our lighting and dining/living areas. Thanks again! ~Des

White is the hardest color unless you go for mixing white or Super White. When I was choosing interior trim white for my house I went through more samples than I can count and finally created my own (and was lucky enough to find a young man who could match it to mend what the kitchen has affected in other rooms--BTW, the named color for repainting one small wall in a very large room was better than color matched to the current paint color. I do limit the direct light in there, but BM also seems not to fade like other paints I've experienced). And knowing exactly the tint I wanted for my kitchen ceiling didn't stop me from making more than a dozen mixes until we got just the right white. Keep at it!! You'll know it when you have it. Maybe it's Cloud and you just need to make sure. Maybe it's Lily Sprite (that's made up--don't go looking for it). Samples and more samples, that's the key. And look at them under different lights. That is, sunshiny, overcast, twilight, incandescent, fluorescent, etc. White reflects the most light so the color of the light makes a really big difference.

I just painted my bedroom and master bath SW Alabaster with SW High Reflective White trim and doors. I LOVE the look, both colors work beautifully together. Depending on the time of day (morning sun) it looks white without being too stark white, as the day progresses it warms up turning into a vanilla cream in the evenings. My bedroom is west facing with more windows and a small south window. My master bath is west facing. The High Reflective White stays pretty true to color at all times. Unfortunately they were not able to do the cabinets in HRW as the paint I used on the cabinets could not be mixed in that color. HRW is a color that is funny at Sherwin Williams and kinda' tricky and definitely takes more coats to cover. I used Emerald paint in Alabaster on ceilings, walls, and cabinets in different finishes and Super Paint in Semi Gloss in HRW for trim and doors. I was nervous about using Alabaster on the cabinets in the bathroom but it worked perfectly. I will say, for those that are using a white on walls that is not as warm as Alabaster/White Dove, or more cooler grays (think grays that aren't greige) the Alabaster or White Dove warm soft whites are going to go yellow/cream. I would recommend going with Pure White for cabinets and trim. It is still a soft white without the creaminess of Alabaster. High Reflective White is also a good white it's not as soft as Pure White but still not so white that it looks cheap, but again HRW is hard to cover and cannot be mixed in many sheens and paints. I decided not to go with Pure White with my Alabaster walls because my husband wanted more of a contrast with the doors and trim, I wanted to use Alabaster on everything, but made a compromise with my husband, and went with HRW. I am not at all disappointed with the look. I know I spent countless hours agonizing over the choices and hopefully this will help others that are in the same position.

@Priya You just have to test. Acadia looks great in my Hawaii house and terrible in my Idaho house because Northern light is more yellow than at the equator. (I had to switch to Simply White in Idaho, which looks like Acadia in Hawaii.) When I needed a "white" for the exterior of my recent house I tested at least 10 colors to come up with the right one. Remember you really don't want a white outside because colors look way lighter outside. A white will be blinding. I ended up using BM Ancient Oak 940 which is is pretty close to the "almond" metal soffits, and on the house it looks white most of the time, at sunset caan look slightly yellow.

I have leathered black pearl. I love the feel of it! I don't have any problems with water spots or streaking like you do with a shiny dark granite. We've had it for a couple of years and I still really like it. My first choice was a leathered Via Lactea but the black pearl was quite a bit cheaper.

Oh yes, what Kristin S said....soapstone would look gorgeous in your kitchen.

There are many different varieties of soapstone and you can either oil it or not, to get a completely different look.

But a popular choice that I've seen mentioned here many times is I think call Jet Mist granite and people like it in a honed or leathered finish. Jet mist granite pictures

If you want Quartz, then consider Silestone Charcoal Soapstone. I haven't seen this one in person but it looks very nice with subtle veining on their website.

If it were my choice I'd go with soapstone. Any time I've seen it I just think it looks stunning and feels beautiful as well. There are some maintenance issues and there are many threads on Houzz you can search and read up on for opinions.

Shiny black granite does not do it for me.....but it isn't my kitchen, so I'll leave it at that.

I think you've got a gorgeous start there with really beautiful cabinets. Please come back and post some pictures when you've got it completed or have your choices narrowed down.

Also, yes to herringbone tile - love it!

We are doing a similar look in our kitchen. We decided on American Black leathered. I think it might actually be the same stone as Negresco, just renamed at our supplier. I would recommend you call around to some local suppliers with large inventories and ask what they have in stock that is black with white veining. There are so many options and they go by so many names.
