Help me design Master Bath/Closet
Comments (7)You're lucky to have such a large space! However, I wouldn't want to walk past the toilet to get to my closet. I'd move the entry to (large) Closet #1 via the linen. Create Closet #2 in the shower area. Move the shower opposite the toilet on the end of the bottom wall. Alternatively, leave the shower where it is but make the entry to your closet where the linen is. Move the linen opposite the toilet....See MoreMaster Bath and Closet Help
Comments (13)18'2" x 10'6" is a nice size space. With that much room, I would want a shower that is larger than 4'x4' with an angled entrance. 60" x 42" is a really comfortable size for a shower. 60" x 36" is also good (we had that in our last house). I would also want more separation between the moisture in the bathroom and my clothes (i.e., a door, and also a good ventilation system). I agree with not running a shower into a bath because then it is hard to get into the bath and you feel "crowded" while in the tub. I think it is fine to run a vanity or tub into a shower, as long as you leave a 28-32" opening to get in (with or with out a glass door). This is how I would lay out the space. The closet is separate and has more hanging space. The tub goes in the bottom right corner, but it can be oriented on the right wall (so it "goes" with the tub like in your inspiration photo), on the bottom wall, or at a diagonal if it is freestanding. Depending on how you orient the tub, there should be free wall space for some shallow shelves if you need more storage. In my drawings, I used 6" thick interior walls, but yours may not be that thick. I also assumed 18'2" x 10'6" was the usable interior space. If those measurements have to include the exterior walls, then either the vanity or closet gets shorter, and the closet gets a little narrower. 6'-6" is as narrow as I like to go with a WIC, so there is 2' of depth for hanging clothes on each side, with a 30" walkway down the middle. Comments (1)You are going to want to go with 3000K LED. The absolute best are the Sylvania Ultra HD Professional Series, really makes colors appear vibrant (95CRI), and the light has noticeably better color tint, but they are expensive. It is possible to find 3200K LED, but they are much harder to find (and options likely to be much more limited). 3200K would probably be the optimal color temperature for your situation, it's a vibrant bright white, but still warm enough to be within the range of feeling residential. I am going to tell you one thing though, and you can tell your wife I told you this: There is no LED product that feels exactly like the old-style GE Reveal bulbs. They do sell neodymium glass though, so maybe you could find some way of putting this filter over the LED bulbs. I have actually tried this, and surprisingly it does make the LED light feel a little more 'natural'. (and before anyone brings the subject up, yes, I am aware that the now discontinued old version of the Cree TW bulb used neodymium glass, but reviews said the light still did not feel like incandescent Reveal, despite the increase in CRI )...See MoreMaster bath (and closet) layout help
Comments (21)I still like no. 1 better but before you go ahead with this dimension of shower, for precautions, I would shop for vanities just to make sure you can find one that size. Also, for me, an 18x32 vanity would be too small. It may not for you but I suggest that you compare what you have right now and see if you would be satisfied with a vanity that size. The drawers might be very narrow. All of that may work for you but it does not hurt to check before you commit. If you find the vanity too small or you can't find any of that size, you might have to change the angle of the shower. You can also have a custom made vanity, but also check if you can find a sink the right size for that vanity. Also, if you find you have not enough storage you may want the cabinet I suggested in the bottom left corner. In that case, I would put a sliding door in the middle of the bathroom (not to the left. Your plan as you have it now might well work but there are precautions worth to checking before committing....See MoreJohnson Flooring Co Inc
