Neighbor's trash dump
Comments (35)Nearly one year later, the plantings are starting to fill in nicely on the lower slope; the ivy and goutweed on the upper slope are hanging in there and hopefully will start to spread. Garlic mustard is taking over one part of the upper slope and I'm just leaving it alone, figuring anything with roots is better than bare soil. I know it seems to everyone that there should be some legal remedy here, but it just doesn't seem to be the case. According to the lawyer I consulted, I might have been able to collect costs of the cleanup on my property only (which was a relatively small portion of the total issue) IF I had a paper trail of letters and notices before I did anything -- but I do not, it was all just verbal discussion. And, there's really no legal grounds for forcing him to clean up his own property or collecting costs once I did it for him. As far as my city government goes, they are notoriously lax about this type of thing -- they basically told me if it was not a health code violation (i.e. toxic substances or attracting vermin, etc) they would not get involved. I had a conversation with the State Dept of Environmental Management and they told me I could file a report but informally said I would probably be wasting my time as they had bigger problems to deal with (toxic waste sites etc) and were unlikely to devote any resources to trash in someone's back yard....See MoreIs this mold buildup?
Comments (20)To all, Let's see......... I used the Kool-Aid thing because of it's citric acid content. Didn't want to buy a big container of Tang is why I chose it. I do use Borax although not in every load and I only use F.S. on a rare occasion. Am on well water, but also have a whole house filter hooked up to the water heater that is changed every few months or sooner. I use better filters not just the basic ones. The machine has a special cycle to clean the machine and it says to use regular bleach only. I only use chlorine bleach for this cycle as I otherwise only use oxy bleach. The homebrew soap was not used for every load and I only used it for a short period. Now I'm not saying this didn't have an impact on the resulting ick, but you can be sure I'm going to inspect the impeller every few weeks to ck it. The dot pattern you mentioned was actually the larger chunks of debris. I have dealt with mold before on walls and the pinkish slime that can sometimes build up in toilets, but these spores or whatever were not raised and active as it may have looked like. It looked like a crud like texture, but hey if it was mold I'm all over the idea of ridding the machine of it! mrmensch, Thanks so much for the Cabrio tear down link!!! I will most certainly be cking it out and will report back if I'm able to get the lid off! I'm actually excited about it!!! To update, I haven't had any debris on clothing or in the drum since I cleaned the impeller and I continue to have no issues to date! BTW, I just received my order of C.S. and will test it out and see how it performs with my hard well water. I do not know how to determine the grain hardness and the closest water testing that the county uses is an hour away. Any suggestions on how to ck it out cheaply? I was told to add some STTP or more washing soda in case my results were below average. I will relay my findings soon! Again thanks to all, no really!!! =)...See MoreWhats the Worst joke/pun you have ever heard
Comments (76)Someone sent me these in an email so thought I'd share them here. Puns for Intellectuals 1. A vulture boarded a plane, carrying two dead raccoons. The stewardess stopped him and said, "Sorry sir, only one carrion per passenger." 2. NASA recently sent a number of Herefords into orbit for experimental purposes. They called it the herd shot round the world. 3. Two boll weevils grew up in South Carolina. One took off to Hollywood and became a rich star. The other stayed in Carolina and never amounted to much ---- and naturally became known as the lesser of two weevils. 4. Two Eskimos in a kayak were chilly, so they started a fire, which sank the craft, proving the old adage ---- you can't have your kayak and heat it too. 5. A 3-legged dog walks into an old west saloon, sidles up to the bar and announces, "I'm looking for the man who shot my paw." 6. Did you hear about the Buddhist who went to the dentist and refused to take Novocaine? He wanted to transcend dental medication. 7. A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel, and met in the lobby where they were discussing their recent victories in chess tournaments. The hotel manager came out of the office after an hour and asked them to disperse. He couldn't stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer. 8. A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One goes to an Egyptian family and is named "Ahmal". The other is sent to a Spanish family and is named "Juan". Years later, Juan sends his birth mother a picture of himself. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband she wishes she also had a picture of Ahmal. He replies, "They're twins for Pete's sake!! If you've seen Juan, you've seen Ahmal!!" 9. A group of friars opened a florist shop to help with their belfry payments. Everyone liked to buy flowers from the Men of God, so their business flourished. A rival florist became upset that his business was suffering because people felt compelled to buy from the Friars, so he asked the Friars to cut back hours or close down. The Friars refused, so the florist then hired Hugh McTaggert, the biggest meanest thug in town. He went to the Friars' shop, beat them up, destroyed their flowers, trashed their shop, and said that if they didn't close, he'd be back. Well, totally terrified, the Friars closed up shop and hid in their rooms. This proved that Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent florist friars. Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot his whole life, which created an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him frail, and with his odd diet, he suffered from very bad breath. This made him.... what? (More apologies...) -- A super-calloused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis. And finally... There was a person who sent 10 puns to some friends in hopes at least one of the puns would make them laugh. Unfortunately, no pun in ten did!...See MoreConstruction crew left tiny debris embedded in lawn...
Comments (8)@krnuttle, This is a 90 year old house that we bought. It's not newly built and had a nice, clean, established yard when the project started. The contractor only has 2 employees and our project was the only one they worked on while it was in progress. The "piles" have been removed... 600 lbs which was measured at the dump we had to pay by the pound at. What's left is rubble and small pieces too small and widespread to rake out. @ reeljake, all that's left of the debris is small pieces... very small, pressed into the dirt or scattered over the top. If I removed the top 1.5 inches of soil, the debris that's pressed into it would go with it. Imagine small pieces of broken lightbulbs, shards of tile, concrete chunks smaller than 2 inches, shards of an old ceramic tub, lots of tiny pin nails, etc. I'm thinking of "shaving" the top layer off to make sure we get rid of a good 90% of the glass and other problematic things @dchall_san_antonio, I've never heard of a clinker... sounds like it could be an idea! Do you think it would work on broken glass, tile, nails, tacks and ceramic?...See More- 7 years agolast modified: 7 years ago
