To achieve full growth potential the Colocasia needs to be planted in the ground, not in a pot. These are aquatic plants and needs lots of water. Last summer I experimented by taking a large pot, and lining it with a black garbage back before filling it up with soil. I wanted zero drainage to simulate muck. The few Colocasia plants were thriving in this scenario, the problem was that the pot still needed to be watered daily even with no drainage and complete saturation. The transpiration rate is enormous due to the high surface area of the leaves. The bottom-line is these are very thirsty plants and it is difficult to keep them adequately watered for optimum growth. But luckily they tolerate less than ideal conditions, they just won't get as big or grow as quickly. x

I'd probably dig those guys up and see if the soil around the bulb is very dry or if there is something eating them. If it's dry or looks bad, you can just amend with compost, sand, greensand, zeolite and/or lava sand. Last year I had a similar problem with some of mine. A whole section of EEs curled up and died for no apparent reason, while EEs right next to them were fine. I dug up the dead ones and found that an armadillo had burrowed underneath it, and the bulb had no soil around it at all. Armadillos are very hard to get rid of and no amount of amending helped because she just dug everything out again within a few days. I also think there are critters that munch on EE bulbs. I don't often move mine around, but on occasion have done so and noticed tracks where something chewed it's way across the surface of the bulb. Well, they do kind of resemble a giant kohlrabi. This post has shamed me into taking a little better care of the elephant ears I dug. Last week I took a photo of the tub full I dug last fall.... they're still sitting in the (barely heated) garage just like they've been sitting since early November, and although the top tubers are drying the bottom ones are far too wet from all the slimy mud that was still stuck on the clumps. They were in the ground and because we had a rainy summer, they multiplied way too much. I'll keep them completely dry and warm all winter and they should do well, but I have no idea if this is the best thing to do with them. It works for me though. Kitsei- I think your bulbs look similar to mine, just a little better cared for! I don't remove anything unless it just falls off on its own. Over the winter the old leaf stems and dirt clumps slowly dry up and fall or can be pulled off but that's it. Nicholsworth- if you ever want to get rid of a Jack's Giant offset let me know. I just looked it up and I think I need one... even though the ones I already have are too much work lol. Maybe I have a canna or something else you'd like? I hope it's ok to sort of hijack a post, but does anyone have tips on overwintering other alocasias and colocasias? The ones that don't form as big tubers still give me trouble. I don't have a warm spot to keep them growing and they either rot while dormant or slowly dwindle and die if I try and keep them growing.

That is not a polly 🤔 not that it matters maybe, but based on the stem I think you have yourself a zebrina. How many leaves does the plant have and how many are affected? I'm just gonna spew some things at you and you see if any could be it. Could it be residu from the treatment? Is it still getting enough light now days are shortening and light's less bright? Alocasia hate direct sunlight, but only thrive (and recover quickly) in very bright indirect light. What worked in summer, may not be enough when winter is coming. Next to light, your potting medium is important, have you repotted recently and kind of related, how often do you feed your zebrina? Let's start with this 😂😂
