If it were my house, I would match the trim to the cabinets. The ceiling color would depend on the wall color, height of the room, amount of natural light, and maybe some other factors. I like to see a colored ceiling when there is crown molding.

I picked up a sample board at a flooring store. It’s still hard to tell with that size but better than the little square. When you are close to making a decision, you should buy 1 box and lay it around. Also - I found that Costco sells calypso oak. The website allows you to see what it looks like in your house. Hello, we moved into our newly constructed house a few months ago. The walls and trim are in different sheens of SW Alabaster. The ceiling is a mix of Alabaster and regular white ceiling paint.

I'm with you, I generally hate "ceiling white" when I see it in a room. Why not use Alabaster? it is a white, isn't it? Or, you can use a pale whiff of color - if your walls have a color, you could use a similar color, or a color that complements but doesn't match. White walls, any pale color you like!
