Do 2 coats oil poly=3 water base?
Comments (5)Fire both of the guys who gave you advice! Jk but really. Hes probably referring to a 2 part water bourne urethane. Which is not only Low VOC (no toxic fumes well no where near that of oil polyurethane) and honestly holds up much better than Oil. It is more expensive but in some scenarios is well worth it. And the other guy who says its perfect solution for your dog predicament is trying to make a sale. Truth is they have not yet developed a finish for HW that prevents scratching, of any kind. The "traffic" will scratch. Its not even advertised as being scratch proof. Its best for wear n tear. But it eventually will get beat up just with every finish. My best advice is to keep the nails trimmed and do youre best to avoid playing frisbee inside :) They have Hardwax oils like Rubio monocoat. (Plug not intended) its non film forming and doesnt do any better at preventing scratches but it does allow a Homeowner to personally sand out a scratch and reapply some oil and be good as new. Downside is its waayy more expensive and high maintenance....See MoreCan I use Bona to clean wood floors with oil based poly??
Comments (19)The amount of vinegar and water you would use with a spray bottle on a dust mop won't "break down the finish". As someone who has spent considerable time removing finishes, it might be easy if it did. Granted, soaking some shellac in vinegar might dull it a bit....but spritzing a dust mop with a bit of the solution to keep the dust down and combat any streaks plain water might leave is a good thing! The thing I object to with Bona is that people wash with it, saturate the finish....and that is never good for wood! You don't slosh a bucket of vinegar water on your floors, put a little spritzed on your dust mop will be lots better than Bona, Orange goo, Murphey's stuff or anything else you can imagine....but for perhaps mineral spirits....and nota's not a good option for weekly cleaning https://howtohardwoodfloors.com/vinegar-clean-hardwood-floors.html...See MoreFinishing hickory hardwoods-sealer? or just water based poly?
Comments (6)I'm guessing the matte is the problem. Not the finish (or is minimal). I would ask for a patch of satin and semi-gloss. Pallmann makes a colour enhancing sealer: http://www.pallmann.us/products/product-search/details/pall-x-color-16916/ Also check to see if they used the MAGIC OIL....it is a hardwax oil finish that is very dull. The satin/semi-gloss will help you feel better about the depth of colour. The colour enhancing sealer will add that little bit of gold tone that will LOOK like an oil based poly....but is used underneath the water based finishes. I would get the installer to add a patch of the colour enhancer to a patch and then the satin and the semi-gloss added to it. You can then choose the sheen/gloss level and WHETHER OR NOT you want the colour enhancer or not. The colour enhancer is NOT used with the Magic Oil. It is only used with the polyurethanes....See MoreOak Log Home Interior Wall: Should I use water or oil based matte poly
Comments (5)Water-based all the way. It is 2020 and to me there isn't really a need for oil based products anymore. There are plenty of water-based products that are availably and are quality products. Not sure of your location and what stores you have access to but I would imagine there are options available to you. Water-based all the way though....See MoreG & S Floor Service
