I would not go to all the trouble of using ceiling white paint if the walls were going to be some shade of white anyhow. You probably notice even now the ceiling appears to be a different shade of white compared to the walls even though they are the same color. White walls do not make a room look lighter or brighter. Depending on what you want to accomplish in the room, white paint may not be the answer. May I suggest that you post a few photos of the room on a thread in the Home Decorating forum and ask for suggestions of what colors might look good. You might be surprised to find that a darker color would make the room look warmer and even brighter. IMO, unless you have really great artwork, white is probably not the best choice for a wall color.

Love the space and I have always been a fan of taupe. I think it would make a very elegant and serene room. I just looked at the colors on SW website. If there is not much natural light maybe SW Studio Taupe would reflect a bit more light? Here is a link that might be useful: Dovetales

Patricia, I forgot to mention that the drapes are going for sure. 😊 Shirlpp, the stained wood fireplace and built in is staying the same. All of the woodwork throughout the house is staying...there is stained oak wide dental crown molding throughout the whole house. The front door is a big custom made stained oak door. We did not build this house and because of our situation, the wood is not changing. We are changing all of the light fixtures and some other things, but not stained oak wood. I think I’m going for a modern traditional vibe and I don’t prefer the usual traditional selections. We will be getting new furniture for the living room. We have not moved into the house yet. Everything in the pic is not ours. I think my living room inspiration board is private so I can undo that.

I've read all the comments and I can understand all the different points of view. I like both light and airy and dark and moody. I like painted paneling and stained paneling. What I don't understand is why someone would buy a home, especially a Tudor, and then want to completely change it. My husband hates Tudors, so when we looked for a home, we stayed away from them. I don't care for ranches, high ranches, split levels, "splanches," or modern (midcentury or otherwise) either. But I respect anyone who does like those types of homes and wouldn't ever buy one and then try to make it into something it's not. I like classic Colonials, Craftsman bungalows, Shingle style or old farmhouses. So we bought a 1920s Colonial Revival as our primary residence and built a Shingle style vacation home. It makes decorating so much easier when you go with the original design style of the home. But I also understand that sometimes you don't have a choice. You need a home and that's the only one available in your preferred area because of good schools, proximity to work or transportation, etc. People seem to move around a lot these days--from reading the design dilemmas on Houzz it seems as if no one stays in a house for more than a few years. So if you don't like the original style of the home, why not go with it until you can move to a home whose style you like better? And then sell it to someone who can appreciate the house's style and pedigree? Just my thoughts.
