Comments (15)Hi, I sure would like some of your Japanese red maple 'Fireglow' seeds. I have all kinds of annuals, perennials & vine seeds. This is my personal stash that is not on my trade list. What are you interested in that I could tempt you with? Please LMK, Faye!...See MoreJapanese Maple Fireglow
Comments (2)Japanese maples do not have aggressive root systems. If you now have new sewer pipes, you have few concerns. However even trees without aggressive root systems (even many shrubs) can be drawn to and invade damaged or cracked sewer pipes. I never recommend pruning a Japanese maple (or most other woody plants for that matter) to stay significantly smaller than it wants to grow. Unnecessary pruning can be harmful to the tree and it usually will affect growth habit and appearance......and not in a good way :-) 'Fireglow' is not a big tree - maybe as much as 15' tall over time but with a narrower spread, perhaps somewhere around 10-12'. Generally it is suggested to not plant any closer to a structure than half the canopy spread - 5' is just about right but it never hurts to err on the plus side....See Morefireglow japanese maple
Comments (8)Alot depends on what it really looks like is it just not as red or is it green ???and yes sun heat etc can make a differnce in its color...my E1 in full sun this summer is almost totally green while another one in the shade is red ...my fireglow is red to red/bronze in mostly full sun some later afternoon shade it got alot of leaf burn this year and is definitly NOT currently "glowing" but looks nice but the 'green E1 ( which was bright red as was the fireglow in the spring ...the E1 has just a bit of leaf tip burn. So YES location and weather conditions can make a big differnce ...If it is a reputable nursery your prob. allright but it could also be mislabed ..you might return it and buy one in spring when it should definitly should have that fireglow "glow" even if in partial shade IMHO ..David...See MoreJapanese maple for full sun zone 7A
Comments (6)I'm located in zone 7A, in Arkansas. I have had some Inaba Shidare in full sun. They did good, but I had to keep them watered, & there was usually some leaf scorch by August. I have moved them to a shadier location, and they are doing much better. I do have a crimson queen, and it seems to handle the full sun pretty well. You might also consider a red dragon. I planted one in my grandparents yard 2 years ago, and it is handling the full sun with no problems. I recently purchased a Mikawa yatsubusa. It is still rather small, so I am leaving it in the container. I have read they do handle sun. So if you decide on one, keep us posted. I would be interested in knowing how it does in our zone and sun. I would avoid the Sango Kaku if you are on a budget. It is a very gorgeous tree, but they are prone to disease. I have had one in my yard for the past 2 years, but actually had to dig it up today, due to the bark turning black from the top down....See Moresplaker
