Windows Design Dilemma Exterior

Exterior window trim on front of house

We are planning to paint the exterior of our house grey with white trim. The front windows used to have awnings which were removed and now they are sort of unfinished looking without any really defined trim

Wondering what to do with big white piece currently under windows which is rotting...remove? Rebuild, perhaps with more square ends? the window section sticks out about 8" and the big whit piece is under the part that sticks out. Also what sort of trim around windows? The house is currently a sage green and we're thinking of a light grey, sort of cape cod looking. Thank you for your kind advice. First time poster!

Cool House- I like the green, but grey would work. What about window boxes under the windows? I like the windows - unless they need to be updated I would not change them or maybe just the trim.

You have warm brick colors near front entry? Consider a color that is a dominate shade hue the brick ?But, just a bit lighter, on the siding and than trim with a very pretty creamy shade that has a bit of a lite cocoa in it? Or you may have to change the color of your roof? You mite like a pretty front door in a orange creme if you use a warm color scheme? If you go with gray tones, a lite yellow might be pretty for your door? Also, someone might know if one could replace that trim with a piece of stained wood? rather than painted?

I love your home exterior. Enjoy refreshing it a bit!

Hi again, Here is the architect's elevation pic. The one above does not show the cladding material, and I just figured out how to send the architect's picture. This image does not show the window trim that we are planning around the windows on the siding part of house. After playing around with house visualizer sites, I am leaning towards the following body: greige - Quary stone board and batten house trim, soffits, facia, freize board - charcoal roof - charcoal (already done) windows - white (already done) window trim around door and siding windows - charcoal board and batten I think the greige has enough gray in it that pairing it with charcoal (not sure how dark of charcoal to go) should work. I wanted to also let you know that the front door will be changed to a 8 foot double door with 3/4 glass (hopefully this will tie in the deck door better). With the taller front door, the transom above will be shorter. Also there will be a bit more brick over garage than is showing. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance. Carol

I think it could go either way, just depends on what you choose first, windows or trim color. I like it now, but a warm taupe trim color would look good too. Maybe try changing the wondows first and then re-evaluating.

Post photos of your house if you want ideas. Randomly adding trim can create a route for water intrusion unless done correctly.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. We are planning a light yellow door! We also plan to paint the brick next to front door on the side of the house, but not the porch brick. Unfortunately we just had the roof done so can't change it for 50 years. :-) We will keep the windows, just need to add some finishing trim I think. Thank you all!

Check into putting a brick glaze on the brick. It allows the brick to breathe and moisture to evaporate. You apply it only to the individual brick. It is inexpensive and will be much more attractive than painted brick. It is a lite touch and will be perfect for a refreshing finish. Study it here or on youtube and try not to paint brick. It is a mess for years to come..

Get rid of the trim board and patch siding, trim windows the same as other windows.
