Comments (1)I don't know what your budget is, but check out the desk chairs at Ballard Designs. They are traditional chairs rather than the office style you see so often now. Also consider looking at chairs with casters for game tables....See MoreCute office chair?
Comments (10)I just spent two weeks shopping all over town and the internet including craigslist for an office chair that was both comfortable enough and that I didn't hate. I did consider a Parsons chair. At a local regular furniture store I found and almost bought what they called a "game chair," which was basically somewhere between a regular chair and an office chair, with lumbar support and normal straight-down legs but with casters on them. But it didn't go with the rest of my stuff. Then I found the perfect store for me, a huge old decrepit barnlike place that's been here for about 40 years and has hundreds of both new and used chairs, and ended up with a comfortable used office chair that I'm happy with: wooden arms, only one adjustment, and it's purple. (Don't worry, the rug in my office has purple in it.) So my advice is to keep looking and you will know when you find the perfect solution. Remember the good old days before ergonomics when any old chair would do? You'd get a new job and use whatever chair you found next to your desk, and sit there for 8 hours without complaining? Those days are gone, baby!...See MoreCan you recommend a comfortable modern office chair?
Comments (14)Life Hacks had a blog post on the five best office chairs, ranging from the Aeron at many thousands of dollars to a humble $199 IKEA office chair that also got very, very good reviews. I bought six of them for our office employees and the reactions ranged from "wonderful" to "horrible." The one employee with back problems ended up visiting stores to sit in and select her own chair, which I bought, and which she now does not use at all because it is uncomfortable. Sitting in a chair for five minutes will not tell you if it is going to be comfortable over several years, unfortunately, so the important bit is to get a chair that adjusts with respect to height, incline, lumbar support, etc....See MoreWhat do you look for to make uphostered chair comfortable?
Comments (17)The most used chairs in our living room are the two old-style swivel rockers. The kind that used to be upholstered in a rust orange or avocado green velvet When in elementary and middle school, my DS had an old rust orange velvet swivel rocker with a tufted back. A hand-me-down from someone in the family. It was his favorite desk/computer chair. He totally ignored his office chair that we bought to go with his study desk. When the rust-colored abomination started to fall apart, my DS insisted that the new chair must be a similar swivel rocker. Thankfully, he didn't care about the upholstery style and color. I searched the CL and thrifts high and low for an old fashioned swivel rocker not upholstered in an atrocious avocado green or dusty pink velvet. Finally I found a pair of swivel rockers that had been recently re-upholstered in some sort of a modernist geometric print fabric. Not exactly a high style but, at least, not ancient velvet. We bought the pair since the seller refused to break up the set. DS loved the new chairs. Fast forward to today. DS outgrew his old desk. I sold the desk on CL, DS got a bigger desk and office chair, and the swivel rockers moved to the living room. There are three more armchairs - two wingbacks and an overstuffed recliner, but everyone seems to favor the swivel rockers. Compact but snug and cozy, no dangling feet, and can be turned in any direction - to watch TV, to play with a cat on the floor, to talk to someone sitting in the dining room or on the couch in the opposite corner, etc. They're so comfortable!...See MoreRelated Professionals
