Will you have a way on the outside to have a fingerhold to open the door if there is no hardware? Do you actually need a lock at all?

Yes, I have one on a pocket door that goes to a bathroom. I will take a picture of it after while and post it for you. Yes, there is also a finger hold to open from the other side, if it isnt locked.

Not clear to my why you would want a lock that poses a safety issue in an emergency with a child or an elderly person, or just anyone who might have a fall.

I suggest that you get a lock that still allows it to be unlocking from the outside, but just not such an easy-to-use design as the one you showed.

This is what I have on my bathroom pocket doors: Schlage pocket door lock

It's simple, inexpensive, and never needs adjusting (unlike many pocket door locks that act up with seasonal changes). It's mounted on the face of the door and is hidden when the door is open. When the door is fully closed you push on it, and it pops out: it's mounted immediately next to the jamb where the pocket is so that it butts into the door jamb if anyone tries to slide the door open. The emergency release is a tiny hole on the outside of the door that allows you to stick something like a paperclip wire in and pop the lock into the open position.

Here are pictures of mine, inside and outside. They are brass. Someone before me, had painted them silver, and its all peeling off, and while the rooms themselves are finally done, the pocket doors have not been a priority because, I dont like them, and they will be replaced with regular swing doors when the priority stuff finally gets done.

This is the inside, and the white piece in the center is what turns to lock it. These locks and doors are original to this 1968 house.
