I side with Karen - probably too long ...What you can do - is as Karen says - shuck the tuber out of the pot - wash it - and if there is some substance to it - put some barely humid sphagnum moss in a ziplock baggie, put your tuber in = and give it some light - not direct sunlight - it will cook - but somewhere where it is light enough. It will either send new sprouts - or not. If it sends - you pot it - if not - several months later you can chuck it. just make sure that the moss is barely humid - not dry and not wet. Sometimes Sinningia tubers loose their growth point - and it is it - they will never sprout again. It is the way how they expire from old age eventually but sometimes happens to young tubers too. I don't think it wants to be forced into dormancy. What people do with microminis when they get that tired ratty look is to carefully snip off all the growth and let the plant send up new shoots. I have my plant in a 2" pot inside a community tall dome. It reseeded into neighboring pots, so now I have a few pots going. I think my plant needs a haircut too. It looks pretty sad. The problem with letting the plant dry out completely is that that may kill the tubers. Keep it lightly moist and when you see new growth, give a light feeding--then see what happens and let us know. This is still a fairly new plant and we are all learning its tricks and foibles. In nature it grows on a shady vertical rock, in a dense colony. I don't know if it was only found on one rock or if it grows in a number of locations. I suspect it is pretty rare in nature. It is related to little S. concinna, which has not been found in nature since its original introduction. Jon

I think the florist gloxinias are plants that are easy to keep alive, but hard to grow and bloom well, especially in warmer climates. Yours may actually do better with more light during the cooler part of the year - they like high light and low temps (relatively speaking). Dormancy's not obligatory with these, but they are determinate; once a particular rosette of foliage produces its blooms, it's done, and new ones will arise to take its place. If the new growths are clustered, you'll get a more clustered plant with more, but smaller, blooms. If you want larger blooms on a plant that looks more like those that are sold as gift plants, leave one rosette from each flush of growth and detach the others at their junction with the tuber; these can be rooted to create more plants. You can repot, but be careful not to go too much larger than the original diameter, because drainage is key with these, and too much soil can create problems with rotting. They'd rather be potted in a fast-draining mix that will nearly dry out before being watered again. As much morning sun as possible will give you a flat, rounded rosette of leaves - I grow mine in full sun, but it's not as intense here as yours probably is. Hope this helps!
