Recs for New Construction Windows Comp in Price to Andersen 200
Comments (1)I don't think the Andersen is a bad option at all. Pretty decent window at the end of the day but there are better units out there potentially. I would check into the Marvin Integrity with the wood interior if you want that wood look....See MoreWho has the best quality vinyl new construction window?
Comments (12)Thanks for the responses, fridge2020 and Windows on Washington. I'm an average homeowner, not in the trade, or selling anything. I'm sharing what I've learned in hopes that the aggregate of all of our responses might be helpful to the original poster. Fridge2020, It wasn't clear to me that the original poster was looking for all vinyl windows as opposed to the vinyl clad wood that I evaluated. My sources of research were potentially biased and unbiased available to the average consumer in the SF Bay Area. I did not come across some of the brands mentioned in this thread and they could be just as good if not better than those I mentioned. The potentially biased sources include the highest Yelp rated window dealers in the area limited by the brands they carry and the Houzz The potentially biased sources include the highest Yelp rated window dealers in the area limited by the brands they carry and the Houzz Advice forum. The unbiased sources include experienced architects, contractors, and window specialists that have installed thousands of windows over many years. The unbiased sources really didn't care what brand or model of window I chose. They happily provided recommendations when I asked. What they did care about was having a happy, repeat customer. I hope that among all of the responses, the original poster has a bit more info to make and informed decision or know what to research further. This has been a great resource where the community has helped me immensely....See MoreBest New construction Vinyl Windows
Comments (3)Thanks for the suggestion i will check them out Amerimax. Is there no way to get sunrise, okna, or softlite in northern california? Those seem to be the most well regarded brands here on this site....See MoreBest new construction windows for southeast wisconsin
Comments (26)"Many middle class people can’t or don’t want to afford replacing windows again in 10-15 years when many of today’s wood windows fail, but maybe you are the exception." It depends what you buy. Can you post which windows only last 10-15 years? It would be good to know those wood-clad brands so that people can avoid them. I first installed Marvin Ultimates sliding glass door 14 years ago. I live in climate zone 5a, and the sliding glass door faces NW. Today, it looks and performs like the day it was installed. Then 5 years after installing it, I replaced the rest of my home's windows with Marvin Ultimates (casements). Now, at 9 years old, they also look and perform like the day they were installed. I agree, this was an expensive investment in windows. But given what I am seeing so far, they appear like they will have lives of 20 years at the very least. In addition, the previous windows of my home were wood-clad, were 30 years old, a no-name brand that we believe were manufactured locally, and only started to fail about the 28 year mark (except the sliding glass door failed about the 23 years mark but it gets more wear and tear). I don't think people can expect only 10-15 years lives for wood-clad windows if they buy good ones to begin with. Expensive, but over the lives of the windows, less expensive than buying poor quality which, to your point, will likely need to be replaced sooner....See Moreredsilver
