copper vs glass sinks-any pros or cons?
Comments (21)Having lived with our hand blown glass sink for 6 years - and with at least 8+ friends that have glass sinks, I have never seen any problems with temperature cracking or scratching... I think Oceana's claim to fame is that their type of glass is supposedly better for high use applications - i.e. kitchen sinks. ...not to take anything away from Oceana - just pointing out our own experience. I would not limit myself to just this one company for a glass sink... ...and I would stay away from the production sinks from China... I have one friend that took a glass vessel sink with a fairly flat rim and with a creative wood "saddle" underneath, they supported the sink in an undermount installation and it looks pretty cool. Another thought is that you can widen the hole in the countertop and lower the height of the sink that way for sore of a "semi-recessed" installation....See MoreFriedrich's CP line - any experience pro or con?
Comments (1)I have 2 Quietmaster Programmable ACs (the ones just before the Kuhls) & a Panasonic model (can't remember exact model, about 4 years old). I somewhat certain that some products in the CP line (blow vent on right) are made by Panasonic. I think I have a vague recollection on that info from years ago. My older Panasonic looks nearly identical to the current CP models (the electronic control panel is different). The good news is that the Panasonic model has been a champ. Not nearly as loud as the Quietmaster on high & comparable on lower settings. The Quietmaster has a noticeable sound when the compressor kicks in - much more muted on the Panasonic model. My QuietMasters have LG Korean compressors. I think the rest is US. I would also like to point out the Quietmaster is a 115lb behemoth. Its also requires the included bracket when used thru-window. And its wide. The only thing you are missing out on is the higher EER - and the naproxin dose before&after. I'll be cursing it shortly as I put it in the window soon. I tossed my old Friedrich AC because it wasn't enough BTUs - worked fine the day I hauled it to the curb (and someone took it)....See MoreAn awning OR patio cover-pros? cons?
Comments (6)Ive had a Sunsetter power retractable awning over my deck for about 8 years. It's about 20 feet wide and can extend 10 ft out. With a motor drive and remote control you can extend it any amount you want in less than a minute. This requires a power outlet near it's right hand end (when you are facing the house). It also can be extended or retracted with a manual crank. Installation is somewhat demanding and while I did it myself with a couple of helpers it is not a quick or easy job. It is a heavy assembly and It took the best part of a day to install. It is very well made (in the USA) of rugged aluminum extrusions, forgings or castings and good quality fabric. We have had no trouble at all with it. One caustion to be aware of - it can act like a big sail in a wind and will try to lift up when the wind gets strong. I fashioned a hold down system to anchor each outboard end to my deck rail when I wanted it extended on days with 7-8 knot or above winds. When retracted it is tolerant of 70 knot winds at least. Here's a link to their site- www.sunsetter.com...See MoreWhat are pros and cons of light vs dark countertops
Comments (52)Black quartz counter top with sliver flecks with white Cabinets and my white marble floors lookings amazing and classy... Black will not change color over the years like the white or cream color counter tops that easily get stained and change color within 2-3 years... In addition, it will hide burn marks and mistakes placing a hot object on the counter tops... I have seen 1 year old homes with a nice cream color counter with burn marks that totally ruins it... Also, I am not looking to hide dust or crumbs since I am clean freak so the black color is perfect fine with me... Also, my house is well lit......See Moresmit2380
