Windows for Low Country style house - new construction
Comments (5)See the link below. I spent a little more time and money on interior trim of the windows and get a "wow" from everyone who has seen them. I saved some money by selecting the grills you see versus going with true transom's. As well as I remember this was a few thousand dollar savings. I think the style I ended up with would fit your design well. I truly love both the stained and painted interiors. I am in north Georgia if you'd like to see them in person. Comments (10)Just commenting on the right side of the plan. Regarding the Master/kitchen relationship, I tend to like them in close proximity having lived with my master in very close proximity to our kitchen (but no shared walls), I have to say it is one of the things I love about living in this house. It's a quick stumble for my morning coffee and easy trip for a midnight snack or to refill my glass of water. It's also easy to be sure the kitchen is in order before retiring. However, we don't have a shared wall bewteen the kitcen and master and I can see some noise issues. If you kitchen shares a walk with the master, you might consider extra sound-proofing. As an empty nester particularly, I really like a central living area in which all the commonly used rooms are in close proximity. Others may differ, but that's my feeling after 32 years in this house. Our retirement house will incorporate much of what we like in this house and hopefully eliminate those parts that are less workable -- like formal dining and living rooms. On you plan, I think I would shift the Master Bedroom to the back corner to get light from two sides and perhaps with an entrance at the back end of the kitchen for a bit more privacy. I also don't like the bath and closet on separate sides of the room. If you rework the the bath and closet in the middle of that side, you can still find a way for clost laundrey access....See MoreNew home construction exterior design advice
Comments (37)"I like every single thing about this plan." That opinion may be based upon lack of understanding of what the drawings show. I avoid: Designs that do not relate to the site. Closets where hanging clothes turn corners. Windowless walk-in closets. Kitchens with overly large work triangle. Large expanses of exterior wall without windows. Walk-in closets that will be difficult to walk into. Hallways less than four feet wide. Stairs less than 3'-6" wide. Freestanding tubs that do not have sufficient space to clean around. Powder room off main entry A powder room where you can sit in and carry on a conversation with someone in the living room and have visual contact with. Powder room window that opens to a front entry porch. Master bathrooms with little counter space. Bathtub/shower with a window. Closets with doors that insufficiently provide full access to the closet's content. Dimension that go to the center line of walls. to name a few....See MoreFederal tax credit for solar for house under construction
Comments (1)I found the answer to my own question so I'm posting it here in case others are curious.
