Agents and security issues - my front door key ...
Comments (4)Well, I would hope that if a person has become a real estate agent they have the ethics (or the desire to earn a living) not to do any of the things you've described. Maybe you could call the office or broker of whatever agent showed your house and just nicely ask that they be sure to get the key put away in the future, as you came home and found it on your welcome mat. As for the alarm system, can your agent put an addendum in your listing saying that there's an alarm system in place and agents need to call for the code before showing? One would hope that, again, ethically they wouldn't give it out or anything. Maybe you could tell your agent how to reprogram the code and have her do it every few weeks or month? Is there a neighbor you could give a key and ask to stop by the house every so often, just to make sure that the AC isn't cranked to 60 degrees 24/7 and that everything is secure? Good luck selling--this all sounds incredibly frustrating and I would be worried, too....See Morefront door lock beside side light windows?
Comments (6)First thing's first- you have insurance on your house, right? Your belongings can be replaced- a family member you cannot. I just bought my first house, which was built in '73. It too has two exterior doors that had the keyed lock on it. Due to being a fire saftey hazard (and a new city code violation), I changed out the locks. So each door has one dead bolt, and the knobs have the little turn buttons. One thing that I did differently on the changeout was to install the jam striker plates with screws long enough to go into the actual framing joist (I used 3" screws), not just the door dam facial board. Theives these days are just kicking in the doors for access as it's not that hard to break out the half inch thick facial board. It's a lot harder to break out the framing joist. On a side note, if you can find a security system sticker to put in the window......See MoreTriple lock security door. Can you just change out the door lever?
Comments (2)Yes but it is tricky since there are so many variations. Many companies make aftermarket hardware that fit other doors- Emtek is one. You may find it easier to find out who manufactured your doors and buy the hardware directly from them...See MoreTriple lock security door. Can you just change out the door lever?
Comments (5)We just got a fiberglass Therma-Tru triple locking door installed. You have to purchase the door unit to get the triple locking mechanism which is quite secure❣️ Visit the Therma-Tru website for more information. Our expert carpenter loves these Therma-Tru doors too. I plan to paint my door when the weather is cooler....See MoreRobin Morris
