Comments (12)Talk about Bamboo, I have a wall of bamboo about 30ft. high in my back yard that isnt the type that cannot be controled. I know 30ft tall sounds like it's already out of control Lol... I use it as a wall, kinda like the bamboo curtain, and it is used as a court yard, actually it's very decorative, I'm not selling it HOWEVER! I have seen it at Home depot going for about $50.bucks for a 5 gal. plastic container. I thought my goodness I've got a gold mine in my back yard, the stocks are a little larger than a quarter maybe a little bigger, I have a neighbor whose bamboo is about as round as hard ball, baseball size some even like a softball size, YEAH!!! talk about "Major Bamboo" One thing I will say about this Bamboo that I have is that it can be corraled with sand, thats right awhile back I had brought a bunch of sand from the river bottom for a project I was doing and I noticed it doesnt past that line at all. And at the same time there is another type of bamboo that runs wild in that same river bottom which is a different type all together, It's a white and light green color while mine is dark to medium color green. One last thing, my bamboo's Roots run almost on top of the soil, only about 2", maybe 3" below the surface and is easy to remove and get rid of since I have removed it from another area I've had it in before. Hi Denise, Sorry to drop this on your thread it just seemed to go along with the other bamboo talk. Greg...See MoreHighlights of my succulent collection
Comments (10)I actually bought the Faucaria in St Louis about six months ago. During my move to California in July, the pot spilled and made a huge mess in my car. I was in no mood to deal with it when I first arrived, so it sat in my sisters garage with no soil and no air conditioning. After I found an apartment and got settled in (about a month later) I replanted the Faucaria. I was worried that my complete and utter disregard for its well being might keep it from flowering, but it provided two beautiful blooms, both in mid-September. Now it is one of my favorites!...See MoreWorried about my succulent
Comments (10)You got lots of good advice from all posters. Well draining potting mix is very important for succulents. Search this forum for 'gritty mix' - to get idea how to mix it. Should you have problems with getting ingredients, at minimum mix in perlite (at least 50% of the mix, could be more). Perlite is easy to get at many stores. What kind of soil is it in now? Drainage - already mentioned. The pot seems to be slightly large - especially if you have water-retaining soil, so lots of soil will take long time to dry up. I would plant it in smaller pot. Don't add any vinegar to your water unless you know ph of it (test). If you are concerned about your tap water (it's probably chlorinated if you have municipal water-not so great for plants, but they will survive), you are better off to buy some distilled water in large jugs & use to water your plants. Better yet, collect some rainwater (it is naturally little more acidic than tap water), especially if you have lots of plants. Simple way of checking if it needs watering is to use a skewer; insert about half-way deep into your pot (or little more). If it comes out 'dirty', soil is too wet (just like checking cake for doneness, lol). Don't water until skewer comes out clean. And water soil around the plant (already mentioned). Comments (45)Hi Marie!! So nice to see you!! I hope you are doing well and that your collection had rebound from your loss years ago. It was a hard winter again for us this year and I did have damage to a few Palm trees, but they finally made a come back.. Hoping they will again. You are so funny about my Plumeria collection! I do have it bad and I have been really good about trying to select and thin down, but its not working to well. I do have a few and thanks to LISA! ;-). She has called me out on how many I have since we had a fun contest over there at the Plumeria forum a few days ago. I had to admit how many I had.., It was a blast ! Lisa is a new Plumeria enthusiast and I'm trying to help her along .... We all remember those who come forward and help instead of lurking and being over helping out. It does mean a lot to them and it certainly makes me feel good. So Marie.. Are your trees doing well? Have you added to your COT collection too? I haven't been over to the Adenoum forum lately.. I really need to go over and say hi! I did count my collection the others day since we are changing up my backyard deck area. We made some benches to add to the side yard to place some of my trees on. Some of my friends call them bleachers LOL!!!! I'm really glad to hear from you. I haven't been on the forums to much and I try to get back to say hello to my friends. Just sent Pug a few trees last year and she just sent a pic of how they are leafing out.. I am so pleased.. Take good care!!! Laura...See Morethesucculentgreenhouse
