1.2 cu ft microwave drawer compared to 1.0 cu ft microwave drawer
Comments (3)thanks rhome-according to the specs, the viking is 5 7/8", and the sharp is 7 1/8". so, its less than 2" difference. i'm just having a hard time visualizing. Or, better yet, trying to recall exactly what it is if anything that i'm going to run into problems with when i try to put it in there and if the taller height is really going to mean alot in the end. our coffee mugs would fit and so would plates, bowls, etc...i'm hoping for feedback from people who have the sharp 1.0 cu ft microwave drawer to weigh in on how much of a difference it would be to them to have the extra height. my current microwave only has 7" now if you only count the usable area on top of the carousel. it has a browning coil on the top that takes up space and if you take the carousel plate and piece that turns the carousel, it seems alot larger....See MorePanel ready microwave drawer and warming drawer
Comments (2)There are many panel ready warming drawers but I've never heard of a panel ready microwave drawer. I would guess that they aren't readily available because of the venting, whereas a warming drawer doesn't get very hot and doesn't have fans unless they're add-ons to be features to sell you on one or the other. The big issue with paneling warming drawers is the fit. Dacor makes a shallower one that will fit in cabinets that are meant to be finished at 24". Most require the same 25" that other flush integrated appliances do, which is easier to find in true custom cabinets than stock. One way you can make it work, if you have chunky doors, is to have the drawer panel ripped down to a thick veneer. My Monogram has the light, and came with a red plastic disk to put over the space drilled over the light in the panel, but I never had it put in. I just keep track of whether it's turned off or not. :) If you like to drink a lot of wine and forget what's in the WD (lots of people talk about finding week old pizza), the light is a good thing to install. :)...See MoreMicrowave above stove vs. microwave drawer
Comments (11)It comes down to space and money. I have a small kitchen but decided to go with a microwave drawer because I didn't want OTR microwave and I didn't have sufficient counter space for it to live on. Having it OTR is very much a compromise - it's not as good as a dedicated hood would be and it also is a bit high for comfort if you aren't tall. I suspect that it also is subject to premature aging if one does a lot of high heat cooking. My ideal - if I had space - would be to stash the microwave in a cubby with a pull out landing strip below and have it at optimum height but the configuration making the most sense was under the wall oven. FWIW, based on my research Sharp makes all the microwave drawers which are then rebranded so there isn't any particular reason to pay for the "name". As others have posted, you do want one with the tilt out controls because otherwise you would be obviating the ergonomic advantages since you would have to squat to read the controls....See Moredrawer microwave or microwave on shelf next to refrigerator .
Comments (16)I have a Sharp microwave drawer with a tilt out panel and so far it has given me no trouble - in use since 2018. It's very convenient to use. Why specifically would the drawer be easier to use. My friend has a relatively large kitchen and her microwave is in a large "cubby". She had the carpenter create a pull out shelf so there is a convenient landing spot for food being taken out or put in. I have a small kitchen and so having the microwave drawer under the wall oven was the most functional location. No place on the counter and no place to put t on a "shelf" or cubby as it would have eaten up more space than as a drawer....See Morechispa
